Hi, I found this sight when I began fixing up my 1980. The first time I read this description "Birdbath Hood", I laughed out loud. My first vehicle was a beat up 74 Power Wagon and I was always amazed at the hood's ability to gather and hold onto water.

My thought is this: Now that the trucks are desirable they will be kept covered and inside. Some day the younger generation will have no idea why it is called a birdbath hood.

Great observation. He referred to his 74 truck though, right?

72-77 had the hood, and I am sure it will carry on long after we are gone... luck

78 also had that hood.

Still plenty of beaters out there and also nice trucks that aren't always kept inside or still see rain.

I put one on my 79 smile just liked the looks of it , not sure about the desirable part to anyone else but us inflicted few.. amazing how well these hoods held up considering their love for water, side note damn cats like to drink out of them too as evidenced by foot prints left behind..

Don't remember when I first heard the term "bird-bath" hood. work
My first new vehicle was a '74 PW after I graduated HS in '73. I even considered drilling a couple of small holes in the hood to drain it but my Dad told me not to. wink Really loved that truck even though it was a 318, 3 on-the-tree, PS, PB, sb and nothing else. up I've had other PWs through the years (new-'75, '78' '79 and a '74 and '79 I bought used) as well as an '82 and '85 PR but the '72-'80 body style is still my favorite. Keep hoping I'll run across a ClubCab sb PW at a decent price but around here they sell for almost B-J prices if they are in any kind of half-way decent shape. frown

I have a few extra's, was tempted to make a table for one to use as a rain gauge. If a single drop falls in the sky there will be water sitting in that hood.
