Not really a Race Forum topic.....might have better results in Q&A......

My 4.7 Durango has 177k miles. Never been opened up, runs good.

Can you just rebuild your engine instead? Or grab a second engine and rebuild that core?

My 2002 4.7 was at 205,000 when I traded it in and the new owner is driving it with no problems today.I never did anything to the engine except change oil, still has the OEM water pump.

I changed to 0 w 30 synthetic 100,000 miles ago. 141,00 now. Engine is very clean inside and runs smoother, the oil is VERY important for lubricating and keeping the passages open.

The 4.7 seems to be good for around 150k before the timing chains are noisy enough to warrent replacement. Ours is just under 150 and makes a bit of a rattle for the first few seconds on cold startups. Not looking forward to messing with it but after watching a few youtube segments its not nearly the OMG complicated affair that I was lead to believe.

normally, the rule is to never reuse head bolts.

Given the reputation of the 4.7, I think I would be throwing everything that may extend its life, even just a little, at it. This would not be the motor to cut any corners on. My $.02. Gene

Good deal!

There will come a time in the near future where I'll need a new engine for my 96 Suburban as it is high miles, noisy, and has low oil pressure when warm. Fortunately, a Goodwrench replacement engine is available anywhere and is about as a cheap a new powerplant as you can buy besides your lawn mower! wink
