What are the challenges with putting on a new oil pan gasket with leaving the 440 in the truck and not pulling it? Is it possible?

never had a big block truck, but I've changed the oil pan on a D and W150 with a 318, so you probably can with the 440.

yes, I can change the 78 440 truck pan in my 88 D100 2x chassis.
a windagetray/oil pick up tube can try your nerves doing it in the truck but take your time.
might have a look at the exhaust system also, I don't know what you have there and it might be in the way or need worked around maybe removed.
single y-pipe comes to mind but that's a SB D chassis..
