It's Complicated
As I'm gathering parts and laying out for my low deck 512 street build. I was looking at the March sport track and Billet Specialties serpentine belt drives. Both systems say to use the thin damper p3830183. My question is. Will this damper be ok for a 600hp - 600tq engine. Is there a better option than the 40 year old design. Looked at ATI and their damper notes seem to suggest the pulley mounting depth could be changed. Or maybe I was reading it wrong. Appreciate the help.

I got a Jeg's brand balancer that is SFI rated. Found out that it's made for them by Pioneer. Good balancer and is quality made.

Thanks I will check that out. Is it the same as the mopar thin damper just SFI approved. I don't have to run the serpentine set up. I just thought they made for a cleaner look. I also liked the ac comp on the pass side for line routing. Thanks again.

Not sure, but it doesn't have the rubber ring between the 2 parts of the balancer. And the degree numbers were dead on

Summit was a lot more expensive for the same balancer.

I've been using the Pioneer 872037 SFI balancer on my internally balanced 360's for years. Great product and reasonably priced. I know they've relabeled them for others, but I haven't confirmed which ones lately.

I have used this Pro/Sport balancer on a few engines including the 493 in my 63. I only race a few times a year at the most and I drive it on the street alot but its been on my eng since 2011 and still holding up great. I have it on another 440 thats it been on about 8 years and is still in great shape and has not had any movement problems. They are SFI approved and made in Austrailia. Ron

It is the thickness of where the pulley mounts, but the outer ring thickness. Both the March and Billet specialties fit my old Summit SFI Damper. It is about 20-years old and was originally on my 451 engine now on the 505" stroker. It looks alot like their competition dampner, but is chrome finish?

My 505" engine has the ATI damper and took a combination of the shorter March pulley for a fluid damper along with a 3/8" spacer to get the belts to align.
