I was fitting some stuff up today, and my 308 heads have a raised spring locator boss that the inner spring rests on. My question is, does this need to go?
I already need to narrow the guide so a seal can fit, so it can be done at the same time.

It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.

needs to be cut to fit which ever spring's you are going to use because you need to know what the inner diameter of your springs are and also cup locators if used.

I wasn't planning on cup locators, the OD fits the stock relief well. this boss is obviously an internal locator.
If I understand you, dartman, I should cut this to serve as a locator for the inner spring and let the outer be located by the stock relief?

If your not using a cup locator then cut that
off and let the OD of the spring to locate it
and dont worry about the inner.. the inner will
follow the outer(assuming the OD of the pocket
is like you say about the fit to the spring)
EDIT
The seal cutting tool I have will cut the guide
OD and that bottom part all in one cut.. make
sure your guide is cut down far enough to clear
the retainer at full lift
wave

That's the way it was explained to me, Mr. P. They will go to the shop next week and get cut. Nothing is bolt on, right? Lol.
