Make it count on your first post right?

I'm working on a '70 Challenger and last night was the first night where I considered it sea-worthy enough to take it around the block. After getting it up to temperature and pulling out of the driveway, I noticed a puff of steam on the right bank of my 340 about ~20 seconds after jumping on it. This was visible from the drivers seat since I'm currently without hood, but the puff was brief and it didn't return. After pulling back into the garage I checked the fluid level in neutral and it looked low and I noticed that fluid had spurted out of the top of the dipstick and contacted the headers, causing the puff. Considering it shifts fine without hesitation and my level is low, I'm thinking it's something internal to the trans and not related to fluid level. Anyone have any similar experiences? I'm planning to do the exact same thing tonight to see if I can burp it again.

Was this the first time the trans had been engaged? Wonder if it burped an air pocket out of the converter?

Idling in park doesn't count.

If you don't get an answer here, post the question on the race section. There's a reason we all have to run locking trans dip sticks. I just don't know the reason why and that might be why, burping trans's

What cooler are you using and how much fluid did you add to get it full?

I don't have a good volume that was added to it. In park cold it the level sits at the 'Full' mark and warm in neutral the level sits at the 'Add 1 Pint' mark. No stand-alone trans cooler. I've got a cheap aluminum radiator with trans ports. Both cooler lines get warm after driving.

You want to check the level in neutral warm. The trans doesn't pump the fluid in park.
