No speed sensor needed, no trans signal needed except neutral or ground it and you can start in any gear. However you could control a 44rh or 46rh with the 89 computer but it is not nessacary to make it run right. I have never had much trouble with the dodge TBI, I think it got a bad rep. because it was our first EFI and no one understood it so it got a bad reputation as impossible to diag and fix. The only bad thing is it does not take kindly to much modifications. If you are happy with the power it makes then I say go for it, if you need more than a dual exhaust, high flow air cleaner, very minor porting and milling then you need a carb or aftermarket EFI.

The o2 sensor is not heated so it don't work real well with headers. Headers have TONS of surface area and are very thin compared to the factory manifolds so by the time the exhaust reaches an o2 sensor in the collector it is not hot enough to work real good. Without a properly working o2 you risk running lean as it will revert back to the base fuel map and the free flowing exhaust is now helping more air come in the engine and no way to add more fuel. If you have to have headers get good ceramic coated ones.

True, and they just need one extra 12V wire, hot in Run.
The Rochester TBI has been scienced to the max and can support 300hp easily. The computers are easy to tune as well.
The Mag engine needs a speed sensor because it uses a much more sophisticated control system that shuts off injectors while coasting, etc. There is no comparison between the two.

I just got rid of the TB1 on my 88 Dodge d250, it was a POS. Using a eddy performer intake, HEI two distributor and headers. I removed the computer and 10 miles of wiring from under the hood including the computer. This project is almost complete except for the new lokar throttle cable and installing new exhaust from the header back which should be done this weekend. Pretty easy to bypass computer and hook up regular alternator, used a mopar starter relay switch to control the starter. Used a couple of relays to provide voltage for the electric fuel pump and ignition. Biggest delay was going back to work and all the other car projects. https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbt...tml#Post1624964
