I have a Snap-on timing light, digital, with the adjustable advance - retard. It isn't suppose to work on MSD ignition! I will be switching to MSD ignition when my new engine goes in, in a few weeks. What is a good timing light to get?

The Flaming River battery powered light has worked well for me and many others with MSD. I like and prefer it even on non-MSD engines. Simple and effective. Same here.. of all the timing lights I have I like the Flaming River best.. just hook on the clip for the plug wire and your ready EDIT http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fla-fr1001/overview/

i bought one of those fancy dialbacks with all the bells and whistles(snapon copy) and it didnt work on my msd ign.i always wondered if its just the msd products or elect ignitions in general.atermarket or oem. From what MSD told me its the multi spark in the first 3000 rpms that messes with a LOT of conventional lights...and it really messes with the dial back lights.. not just being electronic ignition ![wave wave](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/wave.gif)

MSD sells a light that should obviously be compatible with their ignitions. I have one of the old chrome lights MSD sold years ago that was the same as the light Sears sold. Works great. There are always a few of the old Sears lights on ebay. Occasionally you can catch one new in the box.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

We have been using a Snap On light for probably 20-25 yrs with no problems. This is a dial back. I also have a non dial back Craftsman that has never been a problem.
Ok

Theres one thing I REALLY like about the Flaming River unit.. well really 2... its cheap and most important to me other than its accurate is the fact I dont have to hook up a hot and ground.. with my old light I had to unplug the alt and plug in the light on the battery side... I did forget to plug the alt back in a couple of times.. sure did screw with my run(due to no other hot hook up with the battery in the rear)

I think that I will wait and try my Snap-on light. I have it about 25 years.
