Has anyone seen or know what the stamping on the top of this is or means? it appears to be the number 14. I have also seen other stamping on two other vehicles, both 70 Challenger from the Los Angeles plant, one with 19 and the other with 15.

Yes, just an inspectors stamp, it's not a number that can be decoded as an option, etc.

Thanks Scott. Why isn't it on every tag, if it a inspectors stamp? I have only seen it on three tags out of a lot of tags I have looked at.

If you have only seen inspectors stamps on 3 tags , you have not been looking at very many tags . Not all tags have them , it varries from plant to plant , year to year as to if / when, style and location , but it is certainly something you will see very often . Sometimes you will even see letters punched all the way through the metal , oval indentations across the top , etc. Especially true for St Louis .

There should have been an aluminum strip attached under the tag too.

Sometimes too they are very faintly stamped and not easily seen until the paint is stripped from the tag.
