Customer is considering having an automatic overdrive trans installed behind a stock Mag 360 EFI motor in a daily driver style 65 Dart. At this point we are considering the options - trying to avoid the tunnel/crossmember reconstruction that using an A500/RH42 style trans involves. So the question is - what is the most efficient and compact way to adapt a 200R4 up to an LA engine? I see there are front pump adapters to convert to a Reid bell, which is about $650 for the adapter and bell. At that point, anybody know what else is necessary, as far as flexplate, converter, crank adapter, etc? Or is there a better way, such as an engine/trans adapter plate? Or maybe an AOD conversion? Just trying to do some homework to give the customer some options. Thanks.

From the sounds of it this guy needs everything. If he already has a working transmission with a converter he is happy with then look at a Gear Vendors. The costs are probably comparable.

Wilcap has an adapter plate. I have one i plan to use with a 4l80e, just haven't gotten out the saw to make the trans fit. Pretty sure the guy I got it from was using a 700r or 200r

I was going to say it's just a chevy to LA adapter but then remembered that many more 200-4Rs were built with the BOP pattern, although I think there were some dual pattern cases.

The transmission is pretty compact and is supposed to be pretty stout when beefed by an expert.

I didn't see an LA - 200R4 adapter in any of Quicktimes vendors ads. As to the Gear Vendors - not even considered an option - it would take more cutting and fabrication to the floor to install one than it would the A500. I wouldn't mind cutting the floors out of a rusty car that needed pans anyways, but this was a SoCal car and the pans and trans crossmember is spotless. At this point it's build an A500 and mod the floor/crossmember in house, or spend $3K+ on a trans, parts, etc. to convert to a 200R4. So at this point I'm just looking for possible options to make the 200R4 install a little more wallet friendly before I make the decision to carve up the floors.

3k? The wilcap adapter is 605 for everything unless there is something really weird about the magnum engine version. Maybe the disclaimer on there site is to contact them because of the efi magnets/slugs in the magnum flywheel. A carbed magnum should just be a external balanced 360.

A gm pattern 200r4 can't be that hard to find.

Well, any decent 200R4 I'e been able to find with the better drum and stator support has been $1800-2000. Add in $600 for the adapter, $400-500 for a converter - hows my math now? And I still haven't mentioned kickdown linkage/cables, fluid, or a cooler/lines, but I would need that stuff for either trans.

And as I said in my first post a "Mag 360 EFI motor" I would need a way to send the ECM a crank trigger pulse.
