Guys,

I am planning on swapping in my custom cam from Dwayne Porter over the next few weeks in my 499 stroker. I **think** I have everything ordered/here that I will need. Before I get knee deep into this job, can you guys let me know if I am missing anything?

Here is what I have already and/or on order:

- CompCams custom camshaft (hyd flat tappet - nitrided)
- CompCams matching lifters
- CompCams 9 way adj timing set
- Fel Pro valley pan intake gasket kit
- SuperPerf front time cover gasket set
- SuperPerf valve cover gasket set
- SuperPerf oil pan gasket set
- CompCams cam degree kit
- ARP cam bolts
- black and copper RTV
- Joe Gibbs BR break in oil

The rest of the engine only has a few thousand miles on it and should be in excellent shape. Anything else I am missing for this before I start tearing down?

Thanks!!

oil and filter for post break in change.

Coolant to top off, cause you're not gonna catch it all.

something to scrape/clean gasket surfaces. Lacquer thinner for final clean. Shop vac to get the scrapings cause your rags won't catch it all.

Probably missing something myself.

I consider these types of items "shop supplies" and keep this type of stuff on hand (and can be purchased anytime locally).

What I am trying to avoid is the needing a part that has to be ordered which will kill my momentum.

Thanks for confirming I got everything I should need! thumbs

Are you running a mechanical fuel pump? Maybe get a new fuel pump push rod.

Nothing sux worse than being in the middle of a job and realizing you need a "shop supply" type of thing, or worse yet assuming you have it and finding out you don't, BTDT and sending my wife/daughter to fetch it usually ends up bad.

Short example, was working on a turbo voyager and needed a short bit of EFI rated fuel line, a foot was more than enough. I was all slobbered up and had plenty to otherwise do so I asked my oldest daughter to make a parts run for me, wrote down what to get, specifically fuel injection rated fuel hose, gave the SAE spec number and told her that it's probably behind the counter, just hand the note tot eh clerk. She came home with carb hose.

I got cleaned up, went to the parts store had her point out the clerk and ripped him a new one, he was the manager too. I was a bit irritated. That was the last time I sent anyone else to run parts for me, not blaming her but she didn't know what I needed and apparently the clerks can't read english.

Are you planning on swapping valve springs for the break-in? Do you know the open spring pressure with the new cam? Are those Comp lifters EDM?
