Guys,

I came across a 1970 Challenger, the car was built in Los Angeles Ca SBD 8/19/69 with vin #100113, has any one seen one built sooner than that?

When I get a chance I will down load some pictures.

Thanks

The earliest SPD recorded in the 1970 LA Registry so far is 801.

Did you mean August?

For the 1970 model year 801 is the earliest day they used for a SPD on the tags known to me so far.

If the plants actually started producing cars that day, I have no way to know.

it appears that:

for the '70 model year 801-SPDs (Friday, August 1, 1969) were reserved for pre-production cars.
for the LA plant 818-SPD (Monday, August 18, 1969) was the first scheduled day of production.

are you sure 0E100113 was 819?

Morty - work one too many zeros
0B100021 - FE5 SIX PACK 'vert (red/purple/go-mango)
0B100028 - FC7 SIX PACK 'vert
both pre-production from Hamtramck

That is August 1969, the door stickers did not have final assembly days on them until much later when they adopted the MDH date system.

I own a very early 1970 Challenger

JH23G0E100135 - It's been certified by Galen Govier, 1 of 1 and built on the first day the LA plant opened. 8/18/1969 - My car is the earliest in the Galen registry, I'm sure there are earlier cars out there.

Thanks!

You do realize he means 1 of 1 in his records don't you ?? Not production numbers...

There were ~250 total cars (Barracudas, Challengers, Belvederes, Coronets) "SCHEDULED" for production on the first day of 1970 production (Monday 8/18/69) at the LA Chrysler plant. There is no guarantee that the build for all ~250 cars started on that day, but I'll "go out on a limb" and state that none were completed that day.

LA ran one 8 hour (+ overtime when necessary/required) production shift, and the typical car took 3-4 shifts (once production was up to normal capacity) to complete.

I know of 6 pre-production 1970 LA cars.
additionally,
I know of 20 first day of scheduled production 1970 LA cars. (14 have a VIN sequence less than 100135)

Yeah, I'm well aware of Galen's position and how he rates his inventory. I'm not another delusional Mopar owner that thinks they have a $100K car. I got this car as a drag car, but think its special enough to get back to original as possible, and that is what I'm doing. Minus the 318. It now has a 440 six pack. Original Sublime, white interior.

Appreciate the info. Hard to track down info sometimes on LA originated cars.

In case you are curious, here is the fender tag info:

R11 END
FJ5 C16 C55 G32 G34 M21
FJ5 H6XW 000 818 039304
E44 D31 JH23 G0E 100135

Sure this wasn't it? It was up your way for a couple decades, painted EK2.

You've actually seen the car. I never got to. I think you told me that it had a pistol grip in it without "Hurst" on the side.

It had been painted numerous times.

I got the VIN from the owner at the time who is a Nor Cal pimp so that might be the car.
