The weight nearly doubled in a decade, the body bulked up and punches an even bigger hole in the wind, emmisions standards tightened and HP went up so yeah, sounds about right for the course.

So I've been told also. Probably why the local body shop owner sold his and wants to buy my 2006 Mega cab with a 5.9 . Question? how fast were you driving. My truck mileage really drops when I go over 2000 RPM. empty of towing

All I can say is I Lemmon Lawed a 2011 6.7 3500 stick 4x4....loved the truck, but 6.7 drank fuel like crazy.... have another 5.9 stick, and its gonna be around as long as it possibly can be....

I can't possibly feel sorry for anyone since it's been common knowledge that Cummins fuel mileage took a dump in '03. For those that STILL refuse to listen, Google "REAL WORLD fuel mileage (insert your year here) Cummins Dodge" and read until you pass out. Loaded or unloaded, you'll find it all. Even my '02 Cummins was not that great on fuel and I had every trick in the book on it: 60 hp Edge 3.55 gears and 285 rubber. Best that Cummins got was 16 to 17mpg empty and hell, I'm getting that out of my current 360 Mag with electric fan and dual exhaust with the catalytic converter cut out. And before it gets brought up, if I want to pull 10,000 pounds I'll put a V10 in it. And still pay less than a glorious Cummins. I can twin-turbo it too, no problem, it's been done. But, on another note: 9mpg towing a 10,000 pound barn door is about normal so don't bother your dealer. I got 7 mpg with my Magnum at 14,000 GCWR pulling a 27' holiday trailer. Yep, I got passed on every hill, but who fricken cares? I made it to my destination about 10 minutes behind the diesels, whoop-de-do. So, enjoy your new Cummins. Waste of 11 grand as far as I'm concerned unless you are loaded both ways, 24-7, which, again, is common knowledge.

Sounds about right. My dad's '07 3500 Ram, 6.7L Cummins, 6 spd manual, 4X4, crew cab, long bed gets about 9 MPG towing his 40' travel trailer, but he doesn't mind keeping it around 75...sometimes 80 MPH on the interstate. He gets about 15 MPG unloaded. He thought it would do a little better once broken in, and maybe it will. He bought it new, and it still has less than 30K miles on it.

Best that Cummins got was 16 to 17mpg empty and hell, I'm getting that out of my current 360 Mag with electric fan and dual exhaust with the catalytic converter cut out. I just bought a 2003 2500 4x4 long-bed with the HO (305hp version) 3.73 gears, and drove it home from Oklahoma to Mid state PA empty. Lowest it clocked was 18.9 and highest was 21.2, all hand calculated... the over head said 20.5 to 21.5 for the most part, so not too far off. Lowest reading was actually the flat lands section of I70 & best was the 300mile up/down hill section of WV & PA This truck still has a bone stock cummins,(no edge or even CAI) and still has the original factory exhaust. But it does has 285 rubber on it which seemed to knock few rpms off. 70 on the GPS seemed to be about 67-68 on the dash speedo. Sure beats the 11-13mpg I get out of my old 98 Ram with a near dead gas hog 360 in it... So I'm more than happy.

I have a 2015 Ram 2500 diesel. 4x4 crew cab, long bed. Just about 10,000 miles on it now. Towing my 24' enclosed trailer with a total of about 8000-9000 LBS including the trailer and a car in it I am getting 8-9 MPG. Last weekend I did a 350 mile trip, first half was empty, very slight head wind. Stopped and filled up before the return trip and I had used 22.4 gallons after 205 miles. I had a 2004 Cummins before this and got much better mileage..are these things that bad on MPG now? I honestly have not checked it without towing a trailer to compare but will be next time I do a trip with no trailer. What are you guys getting with yours? I would like to have some feedback before I call the dealership service department to have it checked out.
Thanks, Mark My experience with a 2015 3500 SRW SB Crew 4x4 w/Aisin tranny is high teens empty...put a covered GN trailer behind it and it very near cuts mileage in half and very little difference if trailer is loaded or not...

Bs I had a 2000 ctd 4x4 with the NV4500 trans. It had 100 hp bully dog injectors and a tst comp box.oh it also had.3.54 gears. I really miss that truck.but any way my truck on the interstate would get 21-22 mpg easy.putting in the 100 hp injectors made a big diffrence. Oh I got 16 mpg towing my wife's 98 dodge durango back from Kansas runing 70-75 would of got better I think if I kept the speed around 60 to 65.
Ok next truck I had was a 2004 quad cab 4x4 with the 5.9 and NV5600 trans. It had 3.73 gears.that truck was 100 percent bone stock.I towed my 3600 pound 65 Plymouth to kana city race way for the weekend.I live around 2.5 hours from there and I have a lot of hills etc.but back on track it was hot that day and I was having charging problems on the 65 plymouth.so I used the truck all weekend to keep cool and charge the car battery.even used the truck to drive around town. I never filled the truck up till after I got home and got 19.6 mpg. All these mpg figures were all done pin to paper.by that I mean I didn't go by what the over head said.
Ok next truck 2009 dodge crew cab 4x4 with the six speed auto.it had the dpf delete 5 inch turbo bax exhaust and a 500 hp EFI tune.I was on winter fuel and would get around 19 to 20 with it but didn't do much towing with it.
My 2011 3500 dully 4x4 crew cab long bed got the worst fuel milage of any of my trucks.it was deleted tuned etc and just driving on the intetstate it would only get 17-18 but it didn't matter what you had behind it man would it pull.
I can't say for anybody elese but after towing with a 93 dodge 1/2 ton gas truck a 2012 chevy 1/2 ton gas truck and a ford 300 six 1/2 ton truck.after towing for the frist time with my old 2000 ctd truck I will never go back to a gas rig. But that's just me if a gas truck is what you like more power too you. Also on towing 10,000 pounds the most I have ever heard was some guys getting 10-11
