Who is the go to source for having the correct phosphate coating applied to brake backing plates for OE restoration?
Specifically for an A12.
Thanks Chris

Bare metal with a light oil coating is what is commonly known to be correct for drum brake backing plates in 1969 at least. Same goes for upper control arms. As usual in this hobby, i am sure there are some exceptions to that rule.

On my 69 Barracuda the backing plates are phosphated. I found a local zinc plater that also did phosphating. Here are 2 sources for phosphating. http://bmcuda.com/services.htmhttp://www.totallyautoinc.com/mailorder.htmlDon't forget that your accelerator pedal assembly is also a big phosphated part that might need to be done the same time as your backing plates. You can do small parts phosphating at home in your spare time using gunsmithing chemicals in your wife's stainless pots. Backing plates may require bigger stainless pots than your wife has. Or you can go to plastic trays with water heater elements. The plastic needs to be good for use at 200 degrees F. About 20 seconds in a solution at 175-190 degrees is basically what's required for DIY phosphating other than proper cleaning and good temperature control.
If you don't see two dolphins, you need a vacation.
