having the cross ram on the demon seems to make the car "moody"

Sometimes you have to pump it a few times to start and then the next time you can't even breathe on the gas pedal.

I am going to go ahead and finish the car and enjoy it, but I am wandering about taking the cross ram off of the hemi and going to a 1050 dominator on it. I figure it will make a lot more power with the Indy single four intake and be less moody.

How many are running a dominator and which one on a street / strip car that goes to the track a few times a year?

I had Biggs build me a carburetor for the road runner and have never had one problem out of it and the car has been together 10 years now. I emailed them about building one for the Demon and I am awaiting a response.

Thoughts???????

Which intake are you running? The OEM race Mopar or one of new two piece Mopar replacement intakes or something else?

I've been running a 1050 dominator for many years w/a 470 stroker mostly street and maybe Jesse can build you a dommy since you already had good luck w/him. thumbs

Never liked 2-4's....I know they look cool, but all my cars have run best with single 4's....

With that said, does your hemi a 16 bolt heads? I prefer the 10 bolt ones and the matching intake. Big ports pull lots of signal.

We have tested lots of different intakes, and the single 4's between Indy and Barton distribute fuel pretty well. For street I have found the 3-circuit dominator impossible to get right on the street...

Now a good 1050 in 4150 will work very well. A 1050 dominator will be a tad trickier...To make them responsive, you need more timing at idle....A good adjustable distributer is the best optiom.

I have a single 1050 on my car, I drive it on the street quite a bit during the year.

Mine is a Gen 3 Ultra Dominator and I really like it so far, it does take a lot of base timing to make my combo run correctly so I ended up just locking the timing out. Pretty much always starts cold with 2 pumps of the throttle, starts every time without touching it when it is warm.

I read somewhere that the singe carb on a good single plane intake will make around 40 or so more hp then the 40 year old crossram will as it is old technology. I love the crossram look but I dont run one either as I use the Indy dual plane intake and a 850 DP which have great street driveability. Ron

I really like my old Weiand tunnel ram, it made more hp than the Indy single plane and a 1140dominator by a lot.Dave

but isn't a tunnel ram quite a bit different than a cross ram,ie: sorta like comparing apples to kumquats ?

I have a Dominator on my mostly street 500" wedge and love it. I crept up on the Dominator. Started with an 850. Then a 950. And finally the 1050. For the street, a 2 circuit is the way to go. Unless you want to heavily modify a 3 circuit.

Of course NO carb is perfect out of the box, but Dominators being race oriented carbs need more tweeking than some others. But I don't think they need any more tuning than many of the Double Pumpers for street use. Both are way, way too rich in the cruise and low speed metering for the street.

The new Gen 3 Dominators have some very cool features. You may ask Thumperdart if he has a tune for a street Dominator and which one of the new ones he likes. There are so many now that I haven't kept up with the offerings. But I do plan on getting a new 1150 or 1250 for this winter's Hemi project.

The carburetors are brand new. I wanted to run a cross ram because of the cool factor and this is my second cross rammed mopar. I hate to say this but hemis and two fours may be an old school thought when you look at the amount of power that can be made out of one big single and 40 years of technology in the intakes.

draggle if you don't mind out of curiosity how tall is it from the ID pad on the top of the block to the tip of the carburetor? I am interested in the height difference from that to my cross ram set up.

Is his a repop of the original single piece casting Mopar crossram intake or is it the later two piece Mopar design that the top unbolts to get to the intake bolts inside? If it is a two piece intake I don't know of anyone who was happy with one of them shruggy On your car I would probally buy a Stage V inline intake and jet the OEM Holleys the same on the primarys to start with and run them with both carbs. opening together, one to one, not progresively like the stock Mopar with dual Carters came twocents

Which list number are you guys running and it seems most are running the 2 circuit dominators.

I like the features of the latest Holley Ultra G3 in a 1050 2-circuit if they make one...
