I have a 68 Charger that now has a 440 going into it. It was originally a 383 car. I want to upgrade the torsion bars, has anyone used the 1.03" bars in their street cars and how do you like them. Will they be to stiff for street use?
Thanks

I've been using them for years on my '67 Coronet. They're not at all too stiff for street use, and the car drives much better than with the .92's that came on the car. With today's tires, they're not at all overkill and are probably close to what the factory would use if they were building these cars today.

I run 1.0 bars on an E and it is very nice on the street. Would be about the same as 1.03" on a B. I run on a road course and have run IL-CA and back in good comfort. Roughly comparable ride to a modern DD with mild performance suspension. The bigger bars need good shocks to control them and produce a nice ride... better than parts store gas shocks required. Koni or Bilstien are supposed to be best though I run KYB which are OK.

Its also a good idea to add frame connectors if not already done to tighten the chassis. They help at any level. With stiffer bars, especially, you don't want the unibody to become the spring.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I had monstrous circle track tbars on a 65 dart (all I had ex for the /6 bars) and 003/003 SS springs and it rode high and tight (I loved it).

It would be interesting to know the weights the various bars are designed to handle. If you take a a ton of weight off the front with aluminum heads, intake, etc, then how do the stock bars hold up ??

I'm running 1.15 bars in my 1970 Charger along with Bilstein shocks from Firm Feel. The car rides about the same as my 2015 Challenger R/T with the Super Track Pack option group. I ran 1.0 bars for over 10 years. These bigger bars and better shocks are not stiff by any means, they just tighten up the car to give better handling and less brake dive.

Thanks for the replies, looks like I'm buying the 1.03 bars!
