What timing chain is everyone using on their builds? I've read some negative things about the factory 5.7 chains.

Manley, Comp, Howards and likely some others all make them...

I asked this question before and the 5.7 had problems if they had automatics and MDS.
I have also read that the Manley chain is made in India. Not sure about the Howards chain though havent called them lately.

I use the stock chain

Using the Manley chain with no problems...over 1200 3/8 mile laps on the dirt tracks.

Any engine that has VVT uses the same chain. No aftermarket that I am aware of. The 5.7 with MDS and VVT caused some wierd harmonics that broke the chains. That has now been fixed. To illustrate the point, the Hellcat uses the same chain with no issues at all.

I used a factory 6.1 timing set on mine. Simply because there isn't another US made option. I've overseen over 20 engine builds on these motors, and all used a factory 6.1 timing set. Never an issue.

The only internal parts of my engine that are even aftermarket are the cam, bearings and valve springs. And those are all domestic.

I would stay away from the manley I had issues that they were aware of but don't put in the instructions. The issue is the cam snout, timing gear thrust plate clearance you should check this with all after market cams BTW

The problem with the 5.7 chain is the chain tensioner. Get the whole stock 6.1 setup.
