Hey guys, I have a 2002 3500 4x4 and recently had a tire failure and had to use my spare. I now have a pinion seal leak and just got new tires and I probably kinked the vent when I put the spare back in. Do I need to change the seal? I'm going to pressure wash the rear and check while waiting on seal. If no further leaking after topping off rear. Thanks in advance. Mike

Put enough pressure inside the case and something will leak. Take the pressure away and the seal should stop leaking. I think that'll happen for you if you really did kink the tube or hose.

I'd hate to have to mess with a rear end that big!

It's not a bad job-just did it recently on mine. 1973moparman (or something like that) has a video or article on it.

If the rear has some miles on it, you may have to replace some bearings. The pinion seal on my '01 2500 started leaking a few months back. I thought it was just gonna be a quick seal R&R job, but when I got under it I realized there was a lot of pinion gear movement. Ended up replacing both pinion bearings and carrier bearings.
