Can someone show me a close up pic of the correct trunk lid trim for a 70 challenger. I have the Se finish panel on mine. I bought an OEM one that I thought was a 70 because I was told the 70 has an indented detail line running the length of it. But last night I watched an episode of graveyard cars with tony from Tony's parts. They were going over a 70 challenger and I thought I heard him say the 70 didn't have the indented detail line as it matched the quarter panel trim and the 71 did have the indented detail line
Thanks,
Mike

Tony is correct, there is no "indent" line on an original 1970 molding. The 1971-74 cars all used that molding but the 1970 molding is unique to that year. It is smooth with no line as it will match your SE tail panel on each corner, which is also smooth. These pictures that were posted appear to show a moulding with that line, it hard to tell from the pictures. But if there is a line, then the deck lid molding on that car has been replaced at some point in its life.

Thanks m46rat and everyone else. I tend to believe it would be smooth and match the Se panel. But still a little confused as these pics show the line like the one I have. I guess I'll have to look for another one
Thanks,
Mike

Definitely smooth for 1970, the line is for 71-74.

This is a pic of the SE panel and trim,,,,
I am not sure what you guys are referring to as far as indent vs smooth ? ( do you mean the shape of the trim piece ? )

I think mine is fairly original, but who knows,,,
mine is a bit weird as well,,,,ie Western Sport special car,,,,that was built in hamtramack, not california,,,but shipped to california and sold new there.
It has the SE package, rim blow, wood grain dash, etc,,,

I will post a close up of my SE panel as well.

great thread and info

Doug

I know its hard to tell by looking at these pics, could be a shadow. But all these pics seem to have the indented line running the length at the top of the trim. Could they all be the wrong trim? or just an optical illusion. Very confusing.

Top picture is of a true NOS 1970 only decklid molding with no top ridge, completely rounded.
Bottom picture shows 71-up corner pieces with top ridge.
If they were 70 only they would have no ridge, be rounded like the molding pictured.

Thanks mccannix. Well i definitely got the wrong trim piece then. Thought that was one more piece off the list. Guess I'll put it back on and start looking for an OEM one.
Thanks much everyone for the help and if anyone has a nice one they are looking to get rid of , let me know.
Mike
