I want to upgrade the front suspension on my 70 challenger. What are you guys using that works well? I have looked around at k-members etc and the super expensive. Here is what I am thinking

disc brakes
tubular a-arms
coil overs
k-member?

As old school as it sounds, I would stick with a light torsion bar. There are a couple local cars around here that are deadly out of the hole, and they are light torsion bars, and tubular uppers and a good front shock.

Ideally, a nice tubular front with coil overs is a nice way to shed weight, and have good control over the front end, but as you mentioned, expensive.

For me, I will probably just end up cutting the front of my car off and putting mustang struts in the front. LOL

Stand by... tubular LCAs are coming. I have one of the first sets from HDK and will be making a thread soon. Losing the torsion bars and gaining header room. Lighter too.

Drag car? I've found that my 64 Belvedere works just fine with the stock K-member trimmed, good bushings, Heims in the outer tie rod position to set bump steer to near zero, and Afco double adjustable shocks. Car has been 9.02@151. Front end stays square, drives fine.

The torsion bars and the rear steer is just a pain in the azz. Good headers and pan are nearly impossible with those in the way

I thought about maybe trying to modify using a mustang 2 front suspension and seeing if it would work.

I agree this part is a challenge. My drag link goes thru the pan and each header is 4 piece. However it all comes apart pretty easy and fits well.

I'm lazy... I don't like torture... I like easy... Tube k, rack steering, coil over shocks fit my needs to a "t". ....and it launches nice, comes down straight, drives straight, true, and tight. Room for engine diaper, headers can be weaseled out without even lifting the car in a pinch. laugh2

It's a street/strip car probably more race and the occasional car show. Want to shed some weight off of it to.

Be very inquistive as far as the ACTUAL weight on ALL suspension parts, I bought a fabricated tubelar K member for a early 1965 A body, it weighed 21 lbs and the stock 6 cylinder K member weighes 23 lbs shock Both where for stock front suspension with torsion bars and stock steering linkage and box and so on. I know many NHRA stock class rcers that took thier stock disc brakes off of their B and E body and put drum brakes on them from the same year car to loose front end weight work Lots of choices out there on reducing weight, not all of them are the best choices scope Measure many times, buy once thumbs twocents

A modified K-frame, motor plate, light brakes, steering column shaft made from tubing are all good weight savers. Stock upper A-arms are usually as light or lighter than tube arms. A rack will save over the box and linkage but the hassle and cost can probably be used to a better advantage elsewhere in the car unless it's an all out deal.

Light weight battery, like a 4# battery, carbon ceramic rotors, I would get a-arms that actually contact the bump stop. Tubular lower control arms. I like double adjustable shocks, just cant afford them. I am also putting on tubular sway bars. Tim
