Im sure several of you can relate with this problem. (if you call it a prob). My 74 cuda is a good street car with a good paint job and interior. I have got the motor the way I want it (kinda). I have got a 440 on stock suspension running 11.50 @117mph. You see I have to do things a little at a time. I save up a couple hundred here and there. I dont have the luxury like some people and get it all done in one chunk. You know my dad always said you never are satisfied and that's sooo true. At first I wanted a 12 sec street car then got into 11's and now I want low 11's or high 10's. My prob now is that I Have saved about 600ish $$ and there are so many thingsI want to do but only a couple of things that I can afford to do. My car needs some traction assistance (cal-tracs, springs, shocks, etc)but it also needs to be what i call tuffened up with better axles for my 8 3/4, bigger u-joints and yokes, sub-frame conn's. Im riding the fence on go faster or more security (tuffness) I know the consequinces of not beefing up the car but the temptation of the chance to make it faster is always tuff. Oh well, im just venting. I wish I had mo money. .lol..(dont we all). Man, this MOPAR sh#* is addictive. Im sure many of you have had this problem at some point.

Make it tough, then work on fast

I can tell you from personal experience that braking things everytime you go out gets old real quick

I'm in the same situation as you. It'd be easy to get into the 10's but then the 8 3/4 and consistency may go out the window.
I'm choosing to leave it alone, after all it is just bracket racing.(to me anyway)

It sure beats making the car faster, breaking something, and then not having money fix your car...DAMHIK.

You really should install some frame connectors. You dont want to twist the car out of shape and lose you door and window seal. Plus it should help with consistancy and ET. Next, I would "toughen" your rear end as best you can, axles, billet caps, etc.

I agree with what everyone has said, Make the car tougher. #1 on your list needs to be subframe connectors. Not an option here, it needs to happen. Call me a hypocrite though, i still need to do mine before season starts up here.

dude, alot of good advise here. make it tough. i'm on a thin shoestring, too. i go tough first, and it's been good, because if you make it fast first, you'll break stuff, and that's real expensive.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

Definitely do subframe connectors first. Start saving now for a Dana 60. As soon as I went into the 10s my 8 3/4 broke. CHIP

I am in the same boat as I can only afford to spend a little at a time. But I have seen cars start to twist that run 11's without frame rails. The paint will start to crack in the B-pillars first. I put frame connectors and a 6 point bar in my 63 which is a street car when I built it and it has run 11.50's also. I think my 6 point bar really helped alot to stiffen my car up and if you go faster then 11.50 you wont get thrown off the track. I would definetly tuffen the car first and then look to go faster.
