I have this mocked up in the Demon and it looks like QA-1 DD303 shocks will fit the best (9 3/4 compressed, 12 3/4 extended = 3" travel). The QA1 literature says the shocks can 7, 8, or 9" springs. Their cat shows for 2 1/2" ID springs they have 7" and 9", or 8" plated.

What are the pro / con of one length over another, as long as the coils are not close to binding?

Is that with the new LCA design? I'm interested in some of those too.

Yup. I am kinda the ginnie pig for these and will be running the LCA cantilevered off the stock K frame, but reinforced on the front side where the stock pivot wallers out the K frame hole. This is kinda a departure from how he has them designed, as he has a brace for the pivot shaft on the end of the LCA. I ain't gonna use it.

Intuitively 9" springs make my inner happy more, well happy cause of less movement internally to the metal. Spring rate with the 440-1 Mega motor may be a tad stiffer than the KB alum short deck on the real motor. But I really don't know.

This gonna be some nice stuff, I think. The Mazzolini proparts headers didn't fit worth a damn and I had to smash some tubes on the pass side to clear the frame and TBs, so the 540 motor won't breathe now with them. Probably gonna have to get a set made custom for that motor in the car. Losing the torsion bars will help a lot IMO.

I will get pics before this gets put back together, but understand that I am re-enginering this LCA thing just a tad for my hotrod as far as it is mounted, cause the car is more strip than street. I need to enter the interwebs age and find a camera that can show the pics of the stuff we're doing. Denny and I are fine tuning the design and he is great to work with.

Me, being a guy who has to maintain this car, and my job at work is to minimize that req'd maintenz on some systems... I am all over the design and HD is putting up with that aspect very well.

What cheap digital camera will get this show and tell done at best value pricing? I would pay extra for security features like not CC'ing the chicoms..

Please keep us updated! I'm looking to mod my k-member like Bondo Bob's NSS
k-member and doing a moly center link with heim ends instead of the tie rod ends. I already have tubular UCA just need to figure out what to do for LCA. I will be using Menscer or Santhuff's for shocks. I hope these LCA work out and you can use your same spindles and brake set up.

Same SBJ spindles and Lamb brakes as before. HDK has a upper shock mount that bolts inside the stock shock tower and uses a cross bolt / bearing instead of a stud. That part is kind heavy but I suppose will be stout. HDK has a brace tht tie the upper mount down to the frame. I won't be using that as my snout bar is in the way, so I will tie that new upper shock mount to the snout bar instead.

So between the upper shock being lower than the stock shock tower, and using a stock pivot pin location for the LCA, the shocks are what they are. Still 3" shock travel equates to more wheel travel than that as the shocks mount about halfway out on the LCAs.

You've really got that K frame skinnied down! It looks like it is using the stock pivot pin locations, so HDK's stuff ought to work.

I am going to use a 9" spring on the QA1s.
