went to track sunday. did burnout as usual, went through all 3 gears.
when lights come down,i mash pedal and car stalls out. when i try to restart, nothing. push car off to side, after a few minutes car starts fine. go back to pits, check everything. repeats 2 more times, same thing.
pulled car off trailer at home.did massive holeshot down driveway(neighbors love it) no stall ran fine. car is getting plenty of fuel. what gives? coil? distributor? msd 6al digital? has new firecore dist.,taylor 10mm wires. where do i look?

If you have a spare ignition box I would try it.

My Dad had an MSD box that seemed to work fine, but it was causing a 10.50 car to run 12.50s. It sounded good, did a burnout good, but was a slug down track. I took it to have checked on a test stand locally and it wouldn't even work. He replaced the box and it ran 10s again.

Due to various troubles over the last few years I don't use MSD products anymore.

When the engine dies, check the status lite on the msd. It should flicker when cranking. If it doesn't, ur box is bad. Same thing happened to me a few months ago, no start, period. Also check ur 12v supply & ignition supply, could be a loose connection.

One carb or two? Reason I ask, mine did this the other day. I have 2 on mine and one of the floats stuck. It would run fine until I went to take off. Motor just died. It restarted and ran fine back to the pits. If you have 2 carbs, check one float. I learned a valuable lesson that day.

Are you sloshing fuel out of the vent tube on the launch? I had this problem in the past and just added a hose between both vent tubes with a hole in the center and cured this for me?

Before I`d start chasing elec. issues I`d do what I suggested......lower the fuel level below the center of the sight glass, lower the fuel pressure to 5 1/2 psi and as suggested, run a rubber hose between the bowl vents to avoid fuel splash. Not to say you don`t have other issues but I`d start there and w/fresh NGK plugs........

It could be a loose wire for the ignition that comes off the terminal from the g force, then the shape of the wire springs it back into contact. That just happened to a Drag Week car.

I had a similar problem with my Barracuda, It was a wiring problem somewhere in the old stock wiring. Couldn't find it so I ripped all the wiring out and rewired the car. No problems since. Most times with the electronic ignitions it is the ground that is used. Screwing the ground wire to the thin sheet metal just doesn't make good enough connection. Run the ground wire to the engine block. You do have the engine grounded to the frame/body , right?

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

It would seem like the logical first thing to do...........would be after it dies, check to see if it has fire. Need to KNOW what you are trying to fix and that would be fuel or fire.

I had a similar problem on my hemi. It acted like it would flood and stall on launch. Took forever to find it. The tack was bad and screwing up the digital msd signal. Unplugged the tach and car was fine. Replaced tach and no problems since.

Off topic, but hopefully you're starting your burnout in second gear..?

i leave it in first for a nano second and go right into 2nd then third.
orded New plugs will install slosh tube. and lower fuel level. called firecore about distributor, says could be coil. i will bring a spare.
and recheck every ground again i have. this is really bizarre!
pretty much everything in the car is new. but you never know.
