Just broke the shifter cable (Quarter Stick) in my 72 Duster. Previous owner ran the cable out the passenger side of trans tunnel making a sharp turn into the mounting bracket.

Want to avoid another break. Show me how/where you have yours run. My replacement cable is 60" .

My cable runs thru the firewall over the bellshousing and down to the shift lever.Never broke or burned a cable.

You could measure and use a shorter cable.

What side of the firewall? Driver or passenger?

I'm thinking of going right under/beside the steering column.

I could only seem to get a double eyelet in 60". A foot longer would smooth out the tight radius.

I fought this battle on my Hemi Dart project. Everything was in the way of anything I tried. So I had the cable come out of the shifter and go to the passenger side and loop around the tranny to the driver side where I anchored the end of the cable to the stud at the kick down linkage pivot on the tranny bell shousing. And then welded a pivot on the adjuster threads and used that to connect to the shift lever.

In essence, I switched the anchor and the shifter lever locations.

Works great and I have had no cable problems.

Master, again and still

Middle of firewall.
