Hello ----

was hoping someone could provide the best way to replace a broken lower
door hinge spring.

I looked at things on the car yesterday and can't see an easy way to do this.

I am afraid that the door needs to be unbolted form the hinges and removed from the car.

Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Bill

Got me a NEW Project
1970 GTX 440+6, 4 spd, 4.10 Dana and N96 FE5 (top/bottom) and black bucket interior.
Original transmission and Dana - Engine is a service replacement block.

Body has all stamped #s + VIN/TRIM tag and door sticker. Been hunting like all hell to find the Build Sheet.

garage find, only had 41,850 miles on ODO.

Yes you need to remove the hinge from the car. Do not remove the door. Just the lower hinge.

Then rebuild the hinge. If it broke the spring chances are the rest of the hinge is worn out. Put new pins and bushings in it while you replace the spring.

The reinstall and adjust the door if needed.

thank you for the advice....

i will do the total rebuild as suggested. looks like i have a project for the weekend.

just curious if I need to support the door or will the upper hinge hold it up okay and not pinch the back edge of the fender.

What is the best way to get to the bolts?
I am pretty sure one is in the kick panel inside the car, but the two outside ones is there a trick to get at them.

thanks
Bill

remove the splash shield from under the fender to get to them.

Support the door or it will hang down and damage stuff.

I found out recently the lower hinge is the same passenger and driver side on a 68-9 B body, not sure about the Es. Lots of good original passenger lower hinges out there.
