Single 4 cast intake, 4.5 bore, 5 inch stroke, 14.8:1. 54mm roller 288/306 on a 116 with a .510 lobe, 1.9 rockers, wet sump. 1200hp @ 6900rpm. Still makes 1170 @ 7500rpm Should be a durable piece. Never caught it low enough to read peak torque, but was making 970 @ 6300.

Waiting for only the block now to do one with a far better set of heads, more stroke, bigger bore, better pistons, way more cam, and a billet runner tunnel ram. Hoping for north of 1300, and will have two kits added when done.

So far the Preds are easy to work with, totally uncomplicated by comparison to a hemi, and less costly when you factor in rocker arms, and TIME.

Good power, good torque, good geometry, and compared to the chevy/ford world the same money. Narrow mopar bore spacing is the only snag.

It's good to see people pushing the mopar envelope...despite the block saga.

How much power do you think the mope is down compared to the chevy & ford's larger bore space?

What's this motor destined for? Would a good Predator head be comparable to a SR20 Chevy Head?

I'm really impressed with the heads as a piece to work with. These heads came from Jeff at Modern a long time ago, then went to another porter for some valve job changes. Then finally to me from the original owner. I've been slammed with my real source of income, so I had Mike @ muscle motors slap it together for me and ship it to me. I can't leave anything alone, so I ripped it back apart and fiddled with it for a few weeks off and on. Jammed it back together and onto the pump it went. We picked the cam profile, but it's really pretty basic, just normal careful attention to details.

The heads had a few small water leaks in the intake ports. I ripped it back apart and Ted At engine systems in tucker (where I dynoed it) welded them up, I jammed it back together and started pulling it. We never changed cam timing or did anything serious to hunt down power other than jets, and timing. Did try to run it on E85, but it picked up the weirdest exhaust chirp like an old school pro mod motor. Went back on gas and it went immediately away.

Really only bought the stuff to learn about the platform before making a serious effort at one.Glad I did it, and the next one will go under the microscope for whatever, if anything it's worth.

Excellent. I hope to see you shaking the bugs out at Brainerd Optimist again. I've always enjoyed seeing your cars there.

hey boat racer, love the boat. I'm looking for a good pickle fork pump boat to put a blown hemi in. Sent you a PM a while ago about it. What's the hot hull these days?

cool, pleasure or race boat?for a jet you want a "daytona" tunnel... v-drive you want a Kurtis 501...that is what I have...the 572" predator is in the boat now... new block should be done in a couple weeks (604 predator) my old 572 made 1231 hp, the 604 should make north of 1270hp... how big, and what block did you buy for your predator that is going togather?

The boat would be pleasure and the occasional race. That's great power from the 572. What rpm does it peak at?

The block is a tall deck KB. The extra .5 deck will help keep the skirts in the bores. Will also run as thick head gasket as I can get and run the piston up the bore further. I'd be happy if the top ring was near deck.

Looks similar to mine minus the coating, and they were done by CP. Mine will hopefully be on the dyno in October, if no other life things get in the way as they have been all year. Good numbers and I agree they have a few things to make sure of and pay attention to but are good pieces to start with.

Al, I thought that was your racecar in the background of the OP's signature. But now I see a few subtle differences.
Those predator heads must be a beast, I know Al somewhat knows the guy that was running them with a twin turbo set up on his 72 dart at drag week. Was running 7.70's on its first few passes down the track.

Thanks for posting, we don't hear about serious Mopar power on here much frown up I see the pistons aren't coated. Is it just not worth it on this motor (or any motor?), or you just decided to not do it on this build?

I never see the friction coatings last. The thermal barrier coatings stay on but I can't say definitively that they help. Anodizing does seem to help from what I see. I saw a nitrous motor with 7 anodized and one plain piston apart that was for sure wearing the skirt more on the plain piston. I measured the skirts and they were all collapsing, but worst by far was the plain piston. The tops all had some burns, but again the worst was the plain one. The plain piston was on pass bank and they seem to get more oil slung up the bore so more chance of detonation, but better oil for the skirt.

Tony (boatracer572) had great luck with his predator stuff, and he helped me with the 2 I have. My 572 has been trouble free for 64 runs, that's a record. It has run a best of 7.30@183 weighing 1850lbs, in 4800ft air in Boise. Tony says it's a smallish cam for the heads, but I wanted it to stay under 8200 RPM. I think it might run a 7.0 something at sea level, even with the smallish cam and lower than optimal compression. I am finally seeing what he was saying after I had so much trouble initially. They do work. Like others, I wish we had a 5" bore space block to put them on. As far as the SR20 comparison, I have a budy at the track that has an all out SR20 headed 632 in a dragster that weighs 1790lbs with driver, he runs about .05 faster than I do. I think there's a bit more in my 572 with a cam and compression change.

It is a hemi pattern, as will the next. Next one is 5.125 stroke with a sbc rod journal and 4.53 bore. Was going larger bore till I decided to spray it. Have everything sitting on the bench, just no block yet....only been a year...waiting. Westcott is grinding a tool steel cam for it. 288/314 with a 535 lobe on a 116. Great for long life and spray, not so much na.
