My friend is putting his 422 W5 headed engine together. He is using a Moroso deep pan with baffles. Does this engine need a windage tray and what does it hurt if he dont have one?

Won't hurt anything. May not make max HP but no issues.

Thanks for the reply. He already has the pan on the engine and somebody told him that he messed up not putting a tray in it. He wasnt sure whether it would be worth it or not to have to pull the pan and all that mess to put one in.

A GOOD oil pan you dont need the windage tray... but it
will help with that pan... might need to do some work om
the tray also... if I run a real deep pan I dont run a
tray but a scraper helps all the time

Exactly! If the pan is deep enough, no windbags tray is needed. FWIW, the factory tray isn't going to help. It is to shallow to the crank, move it downwards if you install it. But a deep pan will do. A scraper is an excellent idea. A bit of a pain to get it just the way you want it, but what else is new with this kind of stuff?

Rather than guess at what you are doing, call Ishihira-
Johnson and talk to Kevin. You can learn more from him in 15 minutes on the phone than you ever will on a forum. Take notes because he will flood you with information.

May have the spelling wrong but just google crank scrapers and it comes up.

Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston
