Come to find out an Imperial 28 radiator will not fit my 73 Cornet wagon. Will a Charger, or do I need another B Body wagon? The " book" lists some BB wagons had 26, and some 28. I need a 3 core 28. What should I look for as far as OEM fitting?

I looked in the 73 Mopar parts book. It doesn`t show any difference for a b body car and a b body wagon that I can tell. They were quite a few different core numbers listed depending on various applications. Some say with or without i/c what ever that means. Some cores in that year had provisions for a tank switch some not. The 26 inch radiator was listed mostly for non a/c cars. The 28 inch radiator was for max cooling and a/c cars. The parts books doesn`t say how many rows are in each of the radiators.

I couldn`t find a listing at Classic Ind. for a 28 inch radiator but here is 26 inch with a 4 row/core. Is the 26 and 28 core support opening the same? Was size radiator came with the car? http://www.classicindustries.com/product/mopar/parts/md2302a.html

According to the '73 FSM, there are 3 possible rads for the B body 400 (except police) engine.

-- 26" for non-air/max cooling, #3673961, 16 qt system capacity

-- 28" for air, #3673947, 17 qt system capacity

-- 28" for max cooling, #3673953, 18 qt system capacity

I assume the 17qt 28" is 2 core, and the 18qt is 3 core, but as you can see, it does not specify.

You said you have the trailer towing package, I think that would give the max cooling rad.

Hope this helps. smile

If the car was produced with a 26" radiator, the opening and mounting bolt locations will be incorrect for the 28" radiator. To mount a 28" radiator in a 26" car, you would need to drill mounting holes, and will probably want to open up the radiator bulkhead opening a bit more.

A 26" radiator will not fit in a car that was produced with a 28" radiator without some kind of filler panel to make up the 2" differences in the width of the opening. The 26" radiator in a 28" car will have nothing to mount it to if the radiator is centered. There is no sheet metal where the 26" radiator would mount.

This is a case of "fit" may require some modification, but either case can be accomplished. Gene

I have a 73 Imp rad as well.It does not mount the same. The Imp has a recessed mounting bracket, unlike our flush mount GTX's. It is definitely a 28, and max cooling.

I would just recore the one you have to a three row core.
