food for thought--------------------------------------------------I was told earlier by an expert the following....
The original mopar trail dust stripes were tan and not gold. When 3M started reproducing the stripes...due to cost...it was cheaper to use their already produced gold reflective tape than to try to replicate the reflective tan dust trail.
Has anyone else heard this...funny thing....I think I can remember them being tan..... and why don't someone reproduce a reflective tan dust trail? cost??
Does anyone know where I can get a set of oem tan stripes?
Thanks

Just wondering that if they were originally tan why was the option code V6Y instead of V6T?

I'm gonna buy my Bee stripe from Performance Graphics. Here's their color sample page maybe you can find what you're looking for here-

The guy I talked to was performance car graphics.I would suggest talking with him. He's the one that explained the early tan reflective stripes and the aftermarket 3M gold stripe.----------Since I posted the thread...I talked with another person who swears his original bird that he bought in 70 had the reflective tan. Hmmm-------What gives? Anyone know the answer? Does anyone on Moparts have a 70 bird with the original dust trail?

Trying to do it right! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

That is confusing. By PCG's description of the decal, it's reflective tan ink on top of reflective white.

Good to know. They do have a good description of how it's made.

Six colors using reflective inks: Purple, orange, yellow, gray, tan, black print on top-quality reflective white 3M vinyl. Exactly like the originals, and correctly pre-cut around contour of bird and dust trail. ------ quote from performance car graphics advertisement with pics

Here they're advertising the colors on the stripes. As you can see up in the earlier post (pictures). Gold is never mentioned. Only tan for the dust trail. Do you suppose that the new aftermarket stripes use the gold for visual bling?...give it a brighter look?

The new aftermarket stripes probably use gold reflective material because it is readily available and that way they can just print the other colors on the material without having to mix any special inks to reproduce them. Due to the relatively low demand for these stripes, it is probably not cost effective to have special inks mixed up for their printer/plotter.

Challenger Gary.....I think you hit a home run on your post! So....purests will be able to see the difference immediately when looking. I guess it is what it is. Aftermarket stripes are better than no stripes if you need them.

People will get the more accurate ones and still put them on upside down. ;-)
