I have not used a oil system accumulator in the past, but would like to work one into my Gen3 Hemi project.

Who has the best Canton, Moroso, Master lube, other? Things like how well it seals, how it comes apart to service, overall quality matter to me.

They are all aluminum tubes with a piston sealed by orings. FWIW I have always used Moroso and I am sure price was the reason for me. I have installed Cantons as well.

Canton and Moroso appear to be the same unit. I'm with Al - look at price. I also have the Moroso unit but run the Canton oil filter adapter.

Not familiar with the Master Lube.

Master lube has no piston, just a floating ball to seal the outlet. It must be mounted vertically but the one I have works well, simple design.

What exactly is the reason you guys feel you need an accumulator. I personally have never seen the need for one and am such a fanatic about weight, so wondering why people who use one do. What are you trying to "fix"

We use it for prelube in wet sump systems, nothing else.

Before I got into the habit of clicking the motor off at the top end, I would have an oil pressure drop when on the brakes. The accumulator saved motors more than once when not having 4 drain back lines on my first B1 motor, breaking an oil shaft in the lights, and those are the ones that come to mind. I lost a motor when an unmentioned chassis builder shut mine off and didn't think it was important to tell me about it, too.
I am going to a dry sump on the next Predator so, it will be the first time not using one for 20 years. JMO, they don't negatively affect anything but a little more weight.

When we first built my car, we put a flat bottom pan on the engine and promptly blackened the crank. Put the accumulator on to stop that from happening. A band-aid, I know. Since then we have gone to rear sump pans, dual pick-ups, baffles, trap doors, oil system mods, everything short of a dry sump. We were close to minimum weight so that wasn't a problem and we left it on as a safety measure as we could still turn the oil light on using the brakes hard. And I like being able to pre-lube the thing also after it's sat awhile.

That's what I figured........many use them to "fix" a bad oil pan design. As a pre-luber? Just not sure I am convinced it does much good. I have personally never had oiling issues, so just never seen the need

I have been considering an accumulator just to get rid of the 8 quart pan that sits just 3.5 inches from the ground.

i used to see my 15 psi oil light come on at the very end of the braking area. the engine was idling so it wasn't really a problem but with the accumulator the pressure never drops below 35 psi now & thats reassuring if nothing else. it's generally 3 weekends between race meetings for me so the prelube function is also piece of mind stuff. since i fitted my accumulator my bearings have looked like they could go again even tho i swap in newbies every rebuild. oil is insurance as far as i'm concerned, can never have too much.
