Well i have been workin on these little inserts for the past couple days and finally got a design i think will work. A normal set of steel lug nuts weigh 1/2 lb for 5 nuts and washers. My aluminum guys weight 1/4 lb for 5 spacers and nuts. not quit sure on the durability yet but i was getting tired of looking at my rusted nuts on my alumastars. also have a pic of them on a wheel but to lazy to walk through the snow to the garage to take one. Uses a ARP low profile 12 point nut to hold it all together. Whats your opinion?

i have thought the same thing just havent' gone that far yet. i know arp makes a thinner washer that would probably work well without adding a bunch of weight

I'm not trying to rain on your parade but it is probally better for you to find out about this on here than at the track the hard way. NHRA will not allow aluminum lug nuts on race cars, at least not the last time I saw them find them on a car during tech. There are some cars with titanium 5/8 nuts and washers out there still

That's wierd, the rusty fender would bother me a lot more then the rusty lug nuts...

All kidding aside, if the rust bothers you why don't you just buy stainless lug nuts and be done with it?...

you may want to look around on some cars. I know of a handful of cars right now that sport this same type of system.

Two things, find stainless ones for the new weld wheels. UPR products was one of the only ones i knew that made them and they haven't made a set in 2 years. second, weight. This is all unsprung rotating weight. Must just be a mopar thing

What's the difference between a new weld, and an old weld? Is the shank diameter different or something?

We've got stainless lug nuts on all of our cars...

these are more for the one piece magnum 2.0 and the alumastars that have a .450 shank length. I will also state that this is for FRONT wheels.

If the diameter is right, and it's just the thin shank length, I don't see any reason why you couldn't just cut one down in the lathe? I've had to trim them for length before to make sure they don't bottom out. It was for an old set of original American 200S wheels. Just had a slightly thinner hub then the new stuff.

This is all kind of a mute point though right? I'm sure if you can machine those spacers, you can machine a standard stainless lug nut...

I don't have to make the obvious statement that a 1/4 lb doesn't mean squat right?...

Not really sure why you are so against this but whatever that is why i asked for opinions. if i wanted stainless i would have made them outta stainless. 1/4lb PER SIDE (that would be a 1/2 lb per car) isn't much, but it is something. and a little something here and there never hurts. I guess im just thinking outside the box, i know its hard for some to do that

No different than running thinner rotors or swiss cheesed brackets and the such. I like the idea. Some sprung and some unsprung weight. Best of both worlds.

J and J racing has made this setup for years, also Lamb makes them as well. Be careful about selling them publicly because J and J supposedly sued Lamb for selling them. How much are they? Mike
