I am looking for a 383 block and main caps to replace the one I have now. This block is a 68, what year blocks are the best? I found a 63 block, can I use this one and are as good as the 68 blocks? Thanks Matt

The only one that is significantly better is the really late 71 block that actually used the 400 thick web block without being bored to 400 bore size. Other than that and the early RB 383 (JUNK) they are all the same.

Cab can I use the crank and rods from this motor, then get a custom piston made? Thanks Matt

Absolutely, you may be able to buy a shelf piston from KB, Probe, Ross or SRP also scope

iagree The much bigger bore of the 400 block will definitely make more power.
