I am wondering if the switch sends 12 volts to the solenoid when it is in park? Or, does it remove the voltage? I am assuming the simple switches on 727 transmissions are nothing more than a voltage switch?

The switch provides the ground to the starter relay (when engaged) and disconnects the ground if not in park or neutral.

Also operates the back up lights, as a secondary/dual purpose.

Ah, so it is the ground. The 12V must be for the backups?

The center terminal is the ground for the starter relay and the two outside terminals are in and out for back up lights.
