Hey all, I'm looking for a non-reproduction/resto battery cable that I can use for my 72 Charger.

My under-hood is decidedly non stock, and not wanting to spend $100+ for 'stock-appearing' markup, I installed this in October:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gmk-2132-302-683

Unfortunately, it turned out to be junk, corroding invisibly inside the lead terminal and preventing the car from starting yesterday.

Does anyone make a good quality battery cable without the 'resto' markup? I just want some heavy guage copper with terminals that last, and ring connectors for a mopar starter and starter relay stud--don't care if it looks correct.

Thanks!

1 gauge in my 300B for many years. Remarkable Improvement in starter performance ever after. Both cables.

A good cable properly sized with a secondary wire is going to run in the $50-60 range using good products and no resto mark up.

IIRC, the stock cable is a 4 gauge, stepping up to a 0, 1 or 2 gauge would help starter performnace.

I called these guys, told them what I wanted and they made them up quickly. The cables are outstanding. Bronze battery terminals, not lead and all connections have 2 layers of adhesive heat shrink tubing on them. All the cables have the fine strand tinned copper wires and are very flexible.

Your local AP store can fix you up with something that works and is reasonably durable. Just buy the biggest they offer (probably 4 gauge) by length.

Agree even bigger is better. NAPA usually stocks the heavy cable and ends. I have made made them up myself using the crimp-solder-heat shrink approach and they work/last well. I crimp the best I can then heat with a propane torch and feed in rosin core solder. Don't forget to put the heat shrink tube on first though!
