What are you guys using for insurance on your street/strp cars ? what can you recomend and best way to go about it ? I use to be with Progressive and all it took was a phn call and tellem to put it back on when i needed but i swiched to StateFarm and after they reviewed the pics they determined the car was to modified for them to insure it, i called Hagerty but they want full payment for 1 year and thats after if it gets approved after the pics get sent, im looking for a monthly deal as i dont always plan on running the car around that much.

Too modified for State Farm? That surprises me as I have a full tube chassis 572 hemi Challenger and a 1500 RWHP twin turbo Viper insured with their specialty car insurance and I recommend it to everyone. Its way cheaper then anything else I have found like Haggerty, its agreed value, and its monthly payments right with my regular insurance. I have the Challenger insured for $60K and its like $20 a month. I have a Fury and Trailduster insured for like $15k each or something like that and its like under $15 a month....As long as you have a regular daily driver insurance with them they do classic and specialty cars.

In all but a few states, State Farm doesn't have Agreed Value coverage. They have Stated Amount coverage. Huge difference. Most people with SF on their classics/race cars, etc...have Stated Amount, but they don't realize it. I'm not contradicting Jimbo...just pointing this out so that someone doesn't get an unpleasant surprise.

Agreed Value = that's the amount the car is insured for.

Stated Amount = you are owed the LESSER of the Stated Amount or the Actual Cash Value.

Also, none of the collector carriers or standard carriers will cover your car while it's on the track. In the pits, etc...is fine, but once it hits the track, you have no comp, no collision, no liability, no nothing. There are specialty carriers that sell on-track insurance, but it's not cheap.

Haggerty here...yeah, it's an annual fee...but...given all I've spent to get here I liked the fact they worked with me all the way through the "looking for insurance for my project car" discussion. My Diplomat is insured for $15K, that's agreed value, I had sent in the pics, detailed description, spoke on the phone several times, no issues, they understood what I was looking for, they reviewed all the info I sent in...my cost is $400/year.

I am with hagerty also. My 63 is covered for 22K and my sons Dart is covered for 17K. Its not a bad price at all as we pay about $314 per year for both cars. I also know that when I go racing it will not cover me if anything happenes while racing. Ron

I have State Farm with an agreed value on my car. I have never had a claim. My dad has had Hagerty forever. Both times he had a claim with them it was taken care of quickly with no questions.

I think there was someone on Yellow Bullet that insured race cars at the track and while racing. The deductible was $2500 but rates were not terrible. His insurance is only for when racing(or when hauling it to the track I believe). He recommended getting Hagerty or another insurance for road use.
When my stuff gets done I will be looking into this. Much easier to take a $2500 hit than 20-40k.

Check your policy carefully. Haggerty will not pay for any damage while on a race track. Other than the one company listed who covers racing, I'd bet nobody else will. Read the disclaimers before sending in your money.

You are right. I wk for an insurance company and can tell you that there is usually an exclusion related to racing or times speed events(Rally's etc).
The companies will some times even try to deny a claim when the accident happened in the pits while driving around. They don't have anything to really stand on that denial and just hope the insured doesn't push the issue. However, once you have entered staging your done. The insurance company has a much better case. Some may ask why and that's because not all cars in the pits are racing. There are tow rigs, spectators vehicles ect, but cars in staging are there to race.

The Viper got thru because someone made a mistake. State Farms Specialty insurance is for non to lightly modified cars. Be careful because if everything about the car wasn't disclosed during the app they could deny a claim. The insurance company can revoke the policy due to a material misrepresentation in the application. I cant say how I know this but I am very familiar w/this policy and have seen this very scenario happen. Just trying to help out.
