I would like to replace my current fuel line from my mechanical pump to my carb.

I am running 3/8 hard fuel line from my tank to my mechanical pump and then a single 3/8 hard fuel feed to my Edelbrock carb. The motor made 500hp and I never had an issue with fuel delivery.

My new build should make just under 600hp. I would like to still use the 3/8 feed from the tank to the mechanical pump. My Edelbrock mechanical pump is rated for 600hp at 110gph. So hopefully this should support the power.

I would like to replace the fuel line from my fuel pump to my new dual feed carb.

Will the 6an line be enough or should I use the 8an?

All I can say is I use 3/8 line from my tank up to the carb and with just an 850 DP it supplies enough fuel that I have not had any fuel starvation at all on the top end. Ron

I just read this good online article on Fuel Line Sizing. With sufficient pump pressure, 3/8 line can be good to 1,000 HP (so long as you have a good pickup, good high pressure pump, clean filter, etc).

That said, I mounted 1/2 inch line from the tank to the carb along with a return-type fuel regulator, return line and electric fuel pump.

I see guys that want to run a 1/2 inch line in the tank (or bigger confused) and up to the front to the carb. inlet fittings with # 8 AN fittnings on the carbs bowl with .110 needles and seats in the fuel bowls. I have guys tell me that I shouldn't run # 6 lines from my fuel regulator to the two # 6 AN fittings on my single Holley four barrel. Some times people need to stop and think, where is the smallest restriction in my feul system. If you can jet your carb. up fat enough now to slow your car down in the 1/4 mile your good up If not, your not work

Agreed on the article up
Do be aware that the author keeps referring to the ID of the line rather than the OD which seems to indicate what he calls 3/8 may actually be 1/2 OD
he also refers to AN line VS Steel. So a bit confused

The 6AN line would flow the same as your 3/8" fuel line. The 8AN line would be the same as a 1/2" line. AN fittings are measured in 16th's which means that 6AN is 6/16" which equals 3/8" and 8AN is 8/16" which eqauls 1/2" and so one.

Though factory steel fuel line is Tubing, which is sized by nominal O.D.

So, 3/8 inch Tubing is 3/8 inch O.D. and (with 0.028 inch wall thickness) would have a nominal I.D. of 0.319 inch I.D. Versus 6 AN which would be 3/8 inch I.D.

Also, factory fuel line was often 5/16 inch O.D. Tubing.

That's a great article D_C. I guess I should be fine running the 6AN with my setup. The 6an looks like it has a 11/32 (.343)ID. The 3/8 tube has a .320 ID. So its slightly larger.

AN ratings is always on the inside diameter, 6/16 =6x.0625= .325, correct? Don't forget about the reduction of the I.D. going around corners. The Street Hemi cars and a lot of the later model(after 1965) Dodge and Plymouth HP cars had 3/8 O.D. fuel lines and 3/8 O.D. fuel tank pickups, bigger is better on line size when it comes to fuel supply up
