Is anyone running the BFGoodrich/Coker 285/70R15s on a B body? These are seriously tall tires at 30.75". I'd like to see some pics and get info the rims you're using - e.g. 8" vs 10". Are there clearance issues?

Thanks.

We have run 285/70's on the rear of our '64 Savoy since the early 90's. Sure helps tame down the 4.56's while street driving. 15x7 Torq Thrusts in our case.

Ran that size on 15x8 steelies on my '63 and '64 wagons; they definitely fill the wheelwells and the rollout helps tame short gearing as stated.
On those early-B wagons, had to narrow the rearends a bit - 55" wide, I think it was - but was doing new rearends anyway. Inner sidewalls were fairly close to the springs, so spring clamp location was affected. Didn't have to trim anything, but they were pretty close on both sides; wouldn't have worked with weak springs.

Joe I dont know if this is any help but theses Hoosier radial slicks I run are 30 x 9 and I could fit a 31" tall tire in my stock rear wheelwell on my 63. Ron

I *think* the early B-Bodies have smaller wheel wells than my 69 so if they fit for you guys, that's an encouraging sign.

I was thinking about the 285/70R15s to help reduce my final drive ratio for the street. I currently have BF Goodrich 275/60R15s with a 28" diameter and the 285/70R15s have a 30.75" diameter - which is huge. I measured and it looks like the taller tires would fit but its going to be close. I'd sure hate to buy them only to find out later (when I can't return them) that they rub.

Thanks

I don't think the top or inside/outside will be the issue, look closely at the front and rear where the tire meets the rocker and lower quarter. Be sure to think about flex and rebound. If you cant get a store to test fit, which probalby isn't gonna happen nowdays, just buy one and test it. At least you wont be out all the money. Please report back how it works.

Depending on your wheel size, I don't think you are going to have a problem. My Dad had a buddy that ran 285/70's on his '70 Charger. I believe they were on 15x7 Rallyes.

A buddy of mine ran 295/65/15 drag radials on his '68 Satellite convertible with zero issues. 15x8 with 4.5" backspace. Those tires are around 30-30.5" tall. twocents

If you were closer, I'd let you borrow my spare 285/70's.

I've got 275/60/17's on my 70 Satellite. They are a full 30" tall. The front of the tire at the bottom of the 1/4 panel was a little too close for comfort for me. I moved the front spring hangers back 3/4". shruggy
On your Plymouth Body you should be able to use Dodge leaf spring hangers and do the same thing.
Be sure to check the driveshaft length if you do relocate them... twocents
My self I like the look of the taller tire much better... up
