anyone try this tire? They make it in a 29.5/10.5 now up wish I would of waited bout a year later before I purchase the stiff wall frown

It's a bad tire, a few guys that run 8.50 index switched to it and like it.

Almost every Stock/Super Stock car in the country is on a radial, unless they are a four speed car. I saw a guy this past weekend at a bracket race with the new M/T bracket radial on his car. I asked about them and he seemed to like it. The Pro Drag radial is fast and hooks good on a fairly well prepped track but 100 passes is about all you will get out of them before they have cords showing. I'm interested to see how many passes the bracket radial will take.

Read what the previous said."Hooks good on a fairly well prepped track". I tried them when they first came out. Ya, everything was great until you got on a marginally prepped track,then was either hit or miss. And yes every Stock/Super Stock is on a radial,but when you go out are you on a national or divisional prepared track. A lot may have to do with how much power you are making also.

Yes when you spin on a radial tire you don't just lose .02-.04 you lose more like .06-.09 in the 60'. They do not recover like a bias ply tire.

Yep. I ran Hoosier 29.5" x 9" radials and they were Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde off the start depending on how well the track was prepped: Hook, or spin, no in between.

I'd be curious if the MT bracket radial has been engineered to be more forgiving of marginal starting lines than other radials.

I know I dont make a ton of power compared to most of the race cars that run the radial slicks but I will say the 30 x 9 Hoosier radial slick I use hooks pretty good for me most of the time on my local tracks that I run at. Plus I drive on the street on them and even drive to the track on them when I race with them. I only have SS springs as my suspension is nothing fancy at all. But the last 2 times out at local tracks the car ran within 4 hundreths all day long. And at Cecil in Oct 2013 it ran 10.76 three passes in a row as my first pass was 10.81 and then 10.76 three times in a row. And these tracks are just average tracks running local weekend brackets. I was running in the NSS class but it was a new race as it was not a big name group putting the race on. Myself I found as you all know is that as long as I line up in the grove real good these radial slicks will hook good for me almost all the time. But I do understand I am only a 10.70 street car. Pro Bracket radial was just released from Mickey Thompson last month. It's not like a regular radial slick, it's supposed to be the pro compound on a 29.5 tire.

I was hoping to read they had developed a new 14.5 x 15 radial. I tried them back in 2004 and like everybody says, they can really hurt consistency on on poorly prepped track. My log book shows a best of 1.262 and a worst of 1.342 , and a string of those to boot. On top of that, I was lifting often because the car would oscillate side to side so bad I should have lifted on more than half the runs. You couldn't drive it out either, the only help was to get off the throttle.

Our C/SA big block Barracuda has never spun on the M/T 30*9 radials either, but it is a very good working car. I have had it out and bracket raced it some too so it's possible to never have a issue with the radials. I just like to give guys who are thinking about switching over a little disclaimer on the things we have learned. The switch from a bias to a radial is usually good for a solid .10 faster e.t. as well.

I remember going down to Indy to watch the hemi cars run and seeing that same oscillation your talking about. Some of those guys lifted,but most didn't. I too wondered why a tire with a stiffer sidewall would do that.

We have been calling that radial roll. If you have a car that is very loose, front end wise,& suspension. It's seems like this can become an issue when the track may have humps or low spots to unload the car while putting power down. The radials seems to try to fight each other pushing back and forth. I have experienced it a few times, not fun usually on the big end.
I run the Hoosier 10.5x30 stiff sidewall radial on the super stock car & never had a problem with radial roll. The most important thing on a radial tire is air pressure. They can be temprimental at different tracks depending on conditions, also how big of a burnout dictates how they work also, it will be interesting to see how the new m/t work & last. I have heard tons of stories about how bad radials are but most of the time seems to be user error.

I do know that on my 63 I have a standard street radial tire up front and when I went to the radial slick over the bias Hoosier QTP tire my 63 handled better all around and had no walking at all on the top end. I love how good it handles on the radials on all four corners. Course I knew I was mixing the bias QTP tires with my front radials before but I was surprised how much better it handled. Maybe with all the power the SS/AH cars make it has something to do with their wobbling problem. I remember seeing Bucky Hess's car do that at Maple Grove a few years back but I really dont know what tires he had on the back of it that day. Ron

grncpe....I remember seeing the build on your car, nice build up I can't member the rear suspension on it. what's been your best 60' on the Hoosier 10.5 x30's

The best 60' with the Hemi in it was 1.26, the best so far with the super stock 383 has been 1.33 . The same set of tires, I am actually putting a pair of 10.5 x30 light weight radials on it now. My tires are 3 years old & just wanted to get it sorted out with the old ones. So fresh rubber & 3 pounds lighter per tire. I'll let you know what it nets out to be. I need to figure out how to load pics on here now, the 383 looks lost in there lol

Tom have you weighed the car with the 383 ? Curious how much lighter it may be with the 383 vs the Hemi. Ron

Racerx, forgot to mention cal trac mono leaf with bars, cal trac shocks with the Hemi .
Santhuff shocks with the 383
Hey Ron , it weighed 3195 without me and a alum headed Hemi .
383 ss motor was 3050 without me. All off the nose of the car. Of coarse I had to add some weight to it as I have to weigh 3470 for ss/ja. I have been running it at 3560 ish so I will lighten it up a little also to get it a little closer to min weight. That is with me in the car.
