Do you need to drop the tank completely, to change out the fuel sending unit on a 72 roadrunner?

It definately makes it easier. The replacement sender I bought for my '70 B body did not sit flat on the tank floor with the locking ring tightened. Had to pull it out a couple of times to bend the pickup tube to fit right.

not if it goes in the side like on an A body tank. EDIT meant to say on FRONT side (like A bodies).
