What size stock fans are available for use with stock fan clutches? My Challenger has an aftermarket aluminum radiator and a shroud from what I think was a 72 Charger. The fan I have only leaves about a quarter to 3/8" clearance on each side of the shroud and occasionally I hear the tink tink of blades on the shroud when the engine moves. I am not sure what the fan I have came off of, but I did have a New Yorker I parted out once as well as the aforementioned Charger that was parted.

Are there numerous sizes of fans and where would you go about buying one? Is the viscous fan kit a good option if I can find one? They seem to be out of stock everywhere...

Bouchillion makes a 6 blade that replaces many/most 60's/70's fans. I'm running one to replace a MP viscous fan/clutch kit that ate a full tire tread. Its listed at 18"... can compare to your current one. The standard fan on a late 70's and maybe some 80's RWD MOPARs will often fit also (junkyard).

That one would probably work. I measured the opening in the shroud and it is right at twenty inches there is probably a quarter inch at most between the shroud and all blades. I have this one in the shroud as good as it will fit. I was going to post a pic or two. Does it have to be hosted somewhere now?

That is close, no touching when the motor is torqued?

I went to a smaller fan when mine was that close, now I'm not satisfied because of what I see as excess clearance!

I'll go back if you haven't any problems

Joe

It did hit before, but not too much. Was more embarrassing than anything and trimmed the shroud nicely for my next fan. I walked through a local yard over the weekend and found a Mustang with an 8 bladed fan that was pretty rusty in the back seat as well as a 5 bladed fan from a Volare - again found in the back seat. Both were about 18". Took the Volare one for $20 and painted it up and now have about an inch of clearance on each side. Gonna fire it up as soon as it quits raining and see how it handles idling. Temp is always pretty low until I hit the lights and stop and go traffic - then things get interesting.
