I used the shim gaskets on my 383. Heads had a cleanup cut but block still has the factory cut on it. No sealer, put on dry. No leaks, even with a 150 shot. My pistons are .014 on the hole and, yes, the thin gaskets raised my compression from 8.8 to 9.2. I'm glad I bought a new set for the new bullet going together.

You should offer up 4 of those sets to us. there's no reason to be sitting on a stash that large . Zippy is lost. I want to say that he is deceased but the last time I did that people believed me.

The steel shim gaskets aren't available anymore so MP switched to the Cometic gaskets. That is why there is a big price increase. The vendor who was making the steel shims stopped making them.

I think I have a few sets of the steel shims stashed away somewhere. I haven't built a motor with iron heads in so long I've forgotten where the steel shim gaskets are.

The last set of steel shims I bought from in an MP HEMI teardown kit were made by felpro , I'll have to look who made the B/RB gasket ..

Otherwise just order the mr. gasket piece , the price is 20 bucks , they do have a larger bore though .

I might order a few sets of the mr. gaskets so I am sure I have enough

I ended up getting a pair of Mr. Gasket #1135's for about $35 from Parts America. Back ordered, but I only had to wait a week. I had my heads checked by a machinist friend, they are flat, as is the block. So I am going to get a can of Permatex copper spray gasket and use them.

Mopar makes some special sealer for the shim steel gaskets. It spray from a can and looks like thin syrup. I use it on all of my intakes as well. Good stuff and never had a leak.

They do, but its a copper gasket, Felpro 8519SP

From their web site: Problem Solver for Applications where the Head & or Block have Required Excessive Machining.; Dead Soft Copper Material

There isnt a fire ring on them..

They are .020 with a 4.547" bore.

Havent found any steel shim head gaskets from NAPA. I really want a set of my 383, and I get such a good price break from NAPA, its hard for me to shop anywhere else.

If anyone has a felpro number for a steel shim gasket...I'd appreciate it.

Whats the MR Gasket Number? NAPA carries MR Gasket parts.....

I used to care but....... things have changed

Mill your heads .030 and use the thick gaskets. You will be right at the stock compression rate, and won't have to worry about a leak.

cost to do all the machining will be about the same as buying the 177 dollar mopar gasket .
