My '73 Road Runner, "Rusty", has been off road for about 10 years. I got her running this week and she's almost ready to be driven on the road again. She's too rusty to restore, but I just can't part her out when she still runs. The problem: the marker lights and tail lights are coming on, but no head lights. I replaced the dimmer switch, but no luck. I also replaced the head light switch a couple of years ago when I first played with the idea of putting her back on the road, but that didn't work back then. What other areas should I be looking to fix the head light problem?

Does that one have a floor mounted high beam switch? That died in my truck, and caused the low beams to not work.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Silly question...but did you check the headlights themselves? Several years ago, a buddy with a 72 Satellite had a voltage regulator go haywire while driving at night...toasted his dash voltage limiter and took out his headlights. He replaced the limiter, but spend several hours trying to fix his lights....only to find out the voltage spike took out the bulbs. Two new lights later, and the lights worked again.

I did replace the floor mounted high beam switch. I actually didn't check the bulbs. I didn't think all four would burn out at the same time, but I can pull one and check that with a replacement.

turn on the headlights & see if one of the terminals in the 3 wire dimmer switch is hot. if so then the open is in the bulkhead or HL plug connectors or HL grounds & dimmer sw plug in connector might be bad. If no fire at the dimmer sw then the open is between HL sw and dimmer sw. the new HL sw could be bad & highly unlikely there is an open between the "welded splice" downstream from ammeter to the HL switch. check the dimmer & holler back

Thanks guys! I found the problems (yes...problems). The hot wire had broken off of the headlight switch plug...AND the dimmer switch was bad. The Road Runner will now head out this evening for it's first voyage in about 10 years. It's a crusty old rust bucket, but "Rusty" is not dead yet!

Oh...did I mention? It's a factory 318 2V, Pistol Grip 4 speed car! (one of 350 made). It was built at the Windsor, Ontario Plant. It also has the Rallye dash with tach, AM/FM, rear defog, light group, power steering, but manual brakes.

That car looks familiar, did it come from the Hiram/middlefield area?
Last I saw it had magnum 500s and was sitting in a nearby junkyard.

No, I bought it from the Irondale area (south of Wellsville, north of Steubenville) in NE Ohio back in 1998. It's never been in a junkyard, as far as I know.

Dont see many in NEO anymore. Just find it hard to believe that there are so many rootbeer and white ones around here.
Is the drivers side quarter crumpled?
