Any benefit to switching? Is anyone running a Digital 6? I like the idea of having the 3 step already in the box. Running a 6al now. Thanks.

switched from a 6al to digital 6 plus, saw no measurable gains. i liked not dealing with pills when making changes.

Several years ago I "upgraded" to the Digital 6 plus and had a high rpm misfire that wouldn't go away. Rerouted wires b/c all we figured it could be was interference, made no difference. Put my old 6AL back in and it runs perfect. Sent the Digital 6 back to MSD, exchanged for a new one, talked it over w/ their tech guy...same result. Back w/ the old 6AL and all was good.

Had the same issue on a Mustang after I installed an MSD digital multistep retard for the nitrous. Was still using a 6AL along w/ it...developed a high rpm misfire. Swapped the digital retard box for the old style 3 stage retard box that uses chips...problem went away.

I know a lot use them and have no trouble, but that has not been my experience.

edit...both times I had issues, the boxes were mounted inside the car under the dash.

There are many MSD "Digital" boxes, so I'm not 100% which one you're referring to. But I run the 6530 Digital 6AL-2 on my turbo car.

I love the fact that I can modify the timing curves, 2 step, cranking retard, etc... with the laptop.

Might not be so beneficial on a N/A motor, but it sure is nice with the turbo stuff.

i had a huge issue with mine, in that it was very, very sensitive to under the hood RF. i had mine mounted below the battery tray, so it was out of the way, but still had a terrible miss above about 4500 rpm.

put it in the passenger compartment and all is well.
