Ordering a tranzact Reverse Manual Valve Body with low band apply for my BB 727.

Since the tranny is out, what seals should I be replacing/updating? Im not familiar with their names, but I figure Ill be getting the one behind the torque converter, the seal in the kickdown/shift lever and tail shaft, and of course a new pan and gasket

I believe there are two seals for the kickdown shift shaft.

The only external seal that's not accessible in the car is the front pump seal so I'd replace it while it's out. Since the VB is gonna be out you might as well replace the shift shaft seal.

The one you mentioned behind the converter

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

You don't need to pull the pump to replace the seal, just pry out the old one and carefully drive a new one in.

It's a good idea to pack the seal garter spring with heavy grease to prevent the spring from popping off when driving the seal.

Im gonna go ahead and replace the clutches as well as the seals. The MVB has low band apply so I already am going to be doing some work, might as well do it all at once

john is spot on with this. one thing i learned on replacing the seal is to use a piece of grey colored[thick wall sch 80?] plastic pipe to use as a seal driver. size it to your seal and make sure the end[s] are square. i use a lathe to square up the ends, and the length is about 1" longer than the length of the input shaft. works great if you don't have the special tool " #-xxxx".i have several lengths and diameters for different seals. don't forget the grease on the garter spring.

with a hammer/screwdriver tap/bend/collapse the FP seal inward toward the center at several places around the circumference till it is weakened enough to be removed. Angle the screwdriver just right so you do not mar the pump housing. use some sealer on the new seal OD & I'd suggest packing the spring generously with vaseline. drive the seal in straight till it is flush, with as few strokes as possible. lube the TC snout with trans fluid. EDIT whatever stock you use to drive it in get something wide enough to cover most if not all of the seal width
