.....or is there a "preferred" planetary gear set for the 904? I'm not sure...

The 904 in my 62 Valiant is on the ground right now. Unfortunately I'm married to it, the tunnel is so small in these cars, I had to cut it just to get the carbon shield on there. I'll just keep throwing better parts at it, I suppose. Got the good input shaft this go around.

A 727 won't cost much to run at that hp. I run the STK clutches in mine. What's the et?

Yanked the trans and pulled it apart...I sheared the output shaft clean off where it engages in the front planetary. I have 2 spare 904's that I paid $50 for just for parts, so I am going to grab an output from one of those and throw it in.

Not sure what I am going to do though...I only sprayed a small hit through this thing last year, and wanted to turn it up this year, and this is the result already...Starting to think I may just throw the low gearset back in, order up a motor converter and run it like that this year until I can swing the funds to do what I would like to have it hold up. Last I checked aftermarket output shafts are out of stock everywhere, so upgrading wouldn't be an option

I have heard before that a looser converter or more gear will help these live longer...which is what I need at my weight with this thing....Still haven't decided 100% if this is what I will do since I really wanted to pour the coals to this thing with the bottle this year, but at this point it makes the most sense financially and lets me still get out and have fun racing the car

While I like the glide I have broken to sets of plantaries and one input shaft. I now have a ATI 1.80 and a turbo shaft 😉

I've always been lucky enough to have 2 different local guys that do 727's on the cheap, I've raced my whole life and never spent more than $350 to drop off a stock 727 and pick it up race ready, basically just a bolt-in sprag and a decent rebuild kit. 2 of the cars ran 9's for years, never a problem. But I never did hit them with a transbrake or power adder.
Powerglides seem to be the way to go these days but I personnaly think a 3 speed is more fun and sounds better going down the track.

Since you have a spare output shaft, put it back together and race a few weeks/months while you plan your next step.

I would be surprised if you have the exact same breakage anytime soon. It might not last 300 passes, or something else might give up... But at least you are racing right away.

Did some thinking and talking with a few board members, and with what I wanted to do with the car, I am going to just replace the shaft and try it again. I'll stick a smaller jet in the plate and cross my fingers that it lasts the rest of the season on a new shaft. It just sucks when racing season is only a few months because of the weather and you break and have to sit out to fix things, that is what I want to avoid, but breakage comes with the territory.

Should hopefully have this thing all back together by the weekend

Just curious, do you have any upgrade to the front clutch spring? I think there is a better single spring, and a complete multi-spring upgrade.

I wouldn't.........he runs on drag radials. That is the MOST unforgiving tire there is for a race car. Would be better off with slicks from a driveline breakage aspect.

As for the nitrous, you can likely spray it all you want, just don't leave on it, because you are going to break it again nitrous or not
