If you are interested in it, make sure you have it checked out. Mainly the body numbers. The body number should be 6241771152 and that would be stamped on the top, driver side of the radiator support and on the driver side of the package shelf between the speaker hole and the back glass. On this car both should be visible.

More then likely, the engine is not the original D/Dart engine. The second owner told me that the original engine was trash. I thought they might have put the engine from car #46 in it but I kind of doubt it. I could help you verify that.

Yes it is a shame that this car is in car dealer purgetory. However for the money they are looking for it will probably continue to languish on some car lot.

It's a shame that people that restore these cars don't show the "as found" or in progress restoration pics to show the lineage of the car. Maybe they get lost as passed through owner/dealer or maybe they just don't want anything to scrutinize a sale. Playing dumb is a safer bet I guess

I'd be REALLY interested at 15-20k, because I could build a better one for cheaper that I wouldn't feel bad or afraid about shunting into a wall. I'd really only be paying that premium because of supposed pedigree.

I think there's some racing history on the car. Alan may have some of that information.

Sometimes you really don't want to know what the person started with in a restoration. It might/would frighten a lot of people away.

I never saw any photos of this car prior to it being restored. I do know that the original engine was taken apart when it was parked and left to rust. I think the body was in pretty good shape. I was told that they were leaving the "Prepped by" lettering on the car but it's obvious that they didn't.

DO you know what suspension book the b&w photo was in. I had the info somewhere and lost it.

I don't think that is going to happen.

I thought it was bought out of an auction (with another car/D-Dart?) for over that amount. And the buyer was immediately advertised the car for more to flip it.

I think Dart4forte might remember the auction selling price and the asking prices of the various dealers that have advertised it since.

One question about the pedigree... Did it run in a Trans Am race in 1966 OR just SCCA A-Sedan races in 1966? And do they allow A-Sedan cars in the vintage Trans Am races (I think so)?

The dealer from Seattle that had the two cars wanted somewhere north of 40K for the white D/Dart (the one Alan use to own) and somewhere north of 60K for the race car. When he brought the two cars to the Seattle Mopar show several years ago I chatted with him about the cars. He really didn't have a clue on what the cars were other that they had a special vin. It was kinda cool to sit in them.

The white D/Dart had been on the block several time back east. At one auction the bidding stalled at 40K and the owner walked away from the money. Bad move on his part. I think both cars made one more auction before heading out west. Not sure what the Seattle dealer got them for.

Year before last Alan sent me an e-mail informing me that the cars were on the block again. I don't recall how much it went for. I seem to remember a 20K figure from the Mecum auction in Monterey but Alan will have to help me out there.

As far as racing history I belive the car ran SCCA and Trans Am, mostly on the east coast.

Again it's unfortunate that these cars just bounce around auction to auction. It would be nice to see someone get that car and actually use it in vintage racing.

Richard Ellis, car collector and auctioneer, owned both this car and my old white D/Dart at the same time. He sold them both as a package deal,(Mecum Auction -- Indianapolis, May 14-19, 2013 to Cats Exotics up in Lynnwood, WA. My old car went for $26K and the Trans Am car went for $40K. Cats took the Trans Am car to the Mecum Auction - Monterey, CA in Aug, 2014 then to the Motostalgia 2nd Annual Grand Prix Auction - Austin, TX in Nov 2014. Not sure if and when FastLane bought the car. FastLane has put it up on fleabag a couple of time. No real serious bids. On the other hand, my old D/Dart was sold at the BJ Scottsdale Auction, Jan 2014, for $44,000 to a guy from Texas.

The Trans Am car was shipped from Hamtramck Assembly on May 1, 1966 to Ferris Miles, Inc - Redwood City, CA. So it would have been track ready around the end of May. The car was raced on the west coast.
