whats the cfm on a 68 383hp carter cvs carburetor with number 4401s? is it a 625cfm or 650cfm carb?

I think they rated it 625, actual cfm was more like 590ish.

i heard 625cfm then also heard the 68 383hp stamp engines had a 650. which i have 68 383 with hp stamp on it. apparently this carb came on the 383hp engines?

I think the throttle bore size and Venturi size are all the same HP or not in fact according to my 68 service manual the 340 625 avs is jetted identical to the 383HP 625 avs carb.

oh ok true on that alright,really didn't know that.wonder why people say that the 383hp engine had a 650cfm on them?

im not sayin your wrong,i just saw that other post someone a post between a AFB or AVS Carb identification. he has the same carb number.they told him it was a 625 cfm as well. i would like to hear more opinions about this carb tho.

none of those factory avs's had a cfm rating. but, if i had to rate a 340/383 avs i'd say close to 650cfm. one of the mopar magazines some years back flowed a 440 avs at 715cfm.

Carter rated the 383 AVS @ 630 CFM in '70, same throttle bore and venturi size as the '68.
