Check it out! Cool car, wonder about the rear link bars and lack of shifter boot though.

That looks like the bars the stocker class and bracket racers use to stiffen up the front of the spring. Not really sure how they help on a corner burner? Shifter boot is strange they didn't have it. The under the dash gauges are only good when your not in traffic.....nothing like looking at the floor when your at speed.

Im thinking the bars are period correct honestly, they are mounted from shock plate to an eye just in front of the spring hanger. Like a leaf link, not a Caltrac.

Pretty sure the leaf link came out later than the D Dart did.

Shelby's used over riders, mounted above the leaf. Didn't work so well though.

Just sayin'

I hate that phrase, it generally means it's an opinion that is wrong.

Just because you saw them on a 65 Shelby does not mean they are original to it. They are not, just sayin'

You're right, 65 was override, 66 they went to underride like the Dart above.

Cool car and concept, not sure it's the best functional execution.

I think they are missing some shock travel on these rears...

Suppose to be the original Johnny Lightning dart. It's an actual LO23, I've seen it in person. This car has been riding the auction for quite some time. The guy that knows the particulars on the car runs a registry for the D/Darts. His name is Alan and goes by the handle ddartdude. his e-mail is ddartdude@aol.com

It is the same car. Many years ago I was sent photos of the VIN and fender tag. They are from a D/Dart. I'm not sure if the body has any stampings on it....on the radiator support or the package shelf.

I don't think it has a correct D/Dart engine in it.

The shifter is from a floor console car. Probably used to get it a little closer to the driver.

When I was checking the car out in Seattle I couldn't find any body stampings. The paint on the rad support had some pretty thick paint. The trunk wasn't open so I couldn't look there.

The numbers are stamped on the radiator support and on the package shelf between the driver side rear speaker hole and the back glass.

I couldn't find any rad support numbers and of course I couldn't see the package tray.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

It is a collector car. As it sits, it could be run in vintage races. Or probably any other day. It just wouldn't be competative. It was raced for one season and then stuck away somewhere. I was contacted about the car back in January 2010.

The car is a D/Dart. One of the 50 cars built. It's actually car #33 of the build. To my knowledge, it is the only D/Dart that competed in the Trans Am series in 1966. All the other Darts that were competing were 270's.

The small lettering on the front fender of the 1966 photo reads "Prep by PATTNO auto body" and under that is Bob Howe.

It would be really cool, IMO, to be able to own and run a true vintage car in today's current historic road races... I often go to Road America to watch the cars race in their vintage wknds... its really cool.

Someone should buy this DDart and start racing it again... as it was intended from its original hey-day.

PS - I've been to FastLane Cars a few times (just north of St. Louis)...a really cool place with many high-quality cars for sale... and most at reasonable prices.

Mopar Mitch "Road racers and autocrossers go in deeper and come out harder!"... and rain never stops us from having fun with our cars... in fact, it makes us better drivers! Check out MOPAR ACTION MAGAZINE, August 2006 issue for feature article and specs on my autocross T/A!
