I have 440 source stock 440 alternator brackets. I have a powermaster 8-48529 alternator. Powermaster said it would fit stock brackets, but it doesnt line up with the swing arm bracket except for at the very tip. In fact, I had to re-arrange the spacers on the long bolt of the alternator just to get it flush with the brackets, but now the pulleys dont line up. The alternator looks like it wants the small spacer on the front side, but if I move the alternator back, Ill have to put a spacer between it and the swing arm.. which is fine I guess. The main problem is the geometry of the swing arm and the alternator bolt hole

Ive seen the picture for the AR engineering denso brackets, and this powermaster looks very similar to the denso unit, maybe the AR brackets are what I need? Or did I get something mixed up?

going by the last pic if you mix/match spacers/washers till the alt is moved rearward till the pulleys line up (which you know has to be done) then is there any way you can get the swing arm bracket to line up? I know I am missing something but I wanted to give my buddy a BTT start

Yes moving the small spacer to the front helps belt alignment and that's how it is supposed to install that way.

But it still leaves the swing arm issue. I think I need a different swing arm, one that bends backward instead of forwards, and has a different curve.

I just put a factory alternator on my car not ten minutes ago.. All the brackets look like they are in the correct spot. I even have eddy heads as you do.. Must be the curvature of my alternator that lets it fit. Kevin

Cut off that triangle shorter and drill another hole in it to line up with the lower hole in the head.....hole mess should be closer to the motor, for a cleaner look.

That alternator is nothing like the Chrysler duel ear alternator and it looks like you will have to do some fabricating to make it work. Do you need the 140 amp alternator? If you could get by with 75 amps the Power Master 17509 (2 Groove) or 17519 Single groove) would be bolt on.

I need the power. Electric fans, fuel pump, stereo.

This alternator looks similar to the denso, and as many stores sell a bracket kit for the denso, Im hoping it might work for mine.

The alternator swings out too far because that is the only position it will line up with the swing arm enough to get the bolt through, it will not slide down the swing arm, the geometry is wrong.

I am using a Denso Style alternator intended for a John Deere application.

120 amps. Works with the denso brackets, Comes fully tested with a scope reading and everything.

$99

OH OK I see what you are saying now. I'm assuming the crank/wp pulleys are in line with each other & you just need to get the alt in line. I'd move that short spacer & get the alt in line then do what you gotta do to alter the swing arm. & I would want the alt move closer in the the eng CL & in doing that if that particular alt needs to come forward to clear the head to do so then I would & then the crank/wp pulleys need to come forward then & there are flat spacers for the crank/wp then same thing do what you need to do to the swing arm. As mentioned if you can redrill the triangle bracket so to use a lower head face boss I would do that first.

Robert, the alt has plenty of clearance even with the small spacer moved up front. You're right about the swing arm, it has to be changed or modified. The stock swing arm bends forward, so once I put the small spacer in fron of the alt, the alt moves back about 3/4". So, I think need a swing arm that bends to the rear, and also has a different curve that matches the curve of the alt motion. I saw this setup on AR engineering website, see how the swing arm bends to the rear? Im going to email and see if it is what I need.

How about shimming the front of the alternator, pushing it back far enough so that it lines up with the pulleys. Then, instead of putting a shim between the swing arm and the alternator, shim the arm at the bracket, to push it back until it aligns with the alternator. Just a thought.

So, I figured out the problem. The 2 bolt hols on the powermaster are closer together than the stock alt bolt holes. So, the swing arm curve doesnt match up.

I sent the alternator back, and ordered the 120idle/150cruise from qualitypowerauto.com

It was a little more than the powermaster, but higher output, has same bolt distance dimensions as stock chrysler alts, and coolest part is I got it in dual field 3 wire configuration!

Ill let everyone know how it fits. $325 total with free 3 day shipping.

Nice looking alternator. What is the warranty?

The warranty is one year but they told me the alternator will be good for 100,000 miles and if anything failed after warranty just send it back and they will fix no charge (unless it was damage caused by me)
