Restoring a 70 challenger that was disassembled when I bought it. Having some fitment issues with the left front fender. There is a 1" difference in the dimensions of the headlight bucket area where the flange on the bucket is to bolt to the core support. The right fender lines up and fits to the core support. The left fender the flange has about a 1"gap. The dimensions of the headlight buckets are different by the 1" that I have at the core support. The fenders are challenger with the correct marker lights for a 70, although there are some differences in the location of the bumper for the hood and a notch on the right front fender at the top. Anyone have any idea what is going on with these fenders? My first time trying to add pictures, I hope they work.

I measured all my original fenders and they all measure 4"+ on each. Is that an original fender or an early reproduction? Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Possible that it was a 72 and later fender converted with marker light from a 70?

I measured a set of original 72 fenders and they also measure just over 4".

Thanks for taking some measurements. Sounds like this fender is really odd, so guess I'll look for another one or just get new ones from AMD.

I took a few more pictures of my fender issue. I removed the headlight bucket from another fender. The one in the fender that I intended to use is marked MK-L-41 on the part that is about 3 1/2 inches deep. The other bucket is marked MK-L-35 and is about 4 1/2 inches deep. Unfortunately the correct depth headlight bucket has some rust issues, so I guess at this point I'll just go with new fenders. But, sure would like to know why this fender is so different.

If the piece you need isn't too bad, I'd just replace that piece on the short bucket and weld it back in. From what they say, the new fenders can be a headache to work with. Good luck on your decision.

I just checked the fenders on my 7/70 Challenger:
RH - original - missing stamp? ~ 4-1/2"
LH - replaced - "MK - L - 40" ~ 4-1/2"

work wonder if the "short" fender didn't fit on the assembly line & ended up a "NOS" part?

What he said........

I bought an NOS fender for a 1970 Dart and it clearly was a factory reject in how it was made. Didn't fit and was welded together wrong. Still have it unused..........

iagree

I had the same experience with a over the counter NOS Challenger fender. Had to drill a couple spot welds and re-weld for a correct fit. Let my buddy know at the local Dodge dealer and he said it happens all the time. He said I should have brought it back and he would have got me a new one. It was easier to fix it on the car than hassle with a return.

On the same order had a NOS rally hood that was mishandled and they caught it before I picked it up and they had already ordered a new one.

Good luck
